Job Description

POSITION TITLE: Anticipated Literacy SpecialistREPORTS TO: Building Principal and/or their designee SUMMARY: The role of the Literacy Specialist is to provide high quality instruction support and leadership in order to produce high quality outcomes in the areas of Reading and Literacy for students enrolled in the Simonian Center for Early Learning and Sutton Elementary School. The Literacy Specialist assists with establishing school wide and individual reading goals. Additionally the Literacy Specialist will provide interventions to students and work with teachers to implement additional supports in the classroom. The Literacy Specialist will lead the charge with creating a culture of reading that ensures strong reading instruction excitement about books and a genuine institutional love for reading. POSITION TYPE: Fulltime ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:The essential functions or duties listed below are illustrations of the type of work that is performed and is not an exhaustive list of the duties performed by this position. Other duties may be assigned by the Superintendent and/or the Superintendents RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervises the classroom and studentsQUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge skills and/or abilities required. The Superintendent may waive or modify the qualification KNOWLEDGE SKILLS & ABILITIES:Coordinate and facilitate schoolwide literacy programs. Provide support to teachers and provide strategies to improve instruction that will support literacy growth across the struggling students to improve their literacy with teachers in all departments to promote the learning and implementation of best practices in literacy and examines data to measure the success of literacy programs and targeted literacy intervention to small groups of students daily using researchbased strategies and individual and school wide assessments in order to evaluate levels and targeted schoolwide data and assist with placing students in appropriate reading and writing intervention and support regularly with the classroom teachers to plan literacy instruction that correlates with the individual students needs or as requested by the classroom and/ or provide professional learning experiences for teachers related to literacy instructionOther duties as assigned by / EXPERIENCE:Bachelors Degree Masters degree in Specialist teacher of Reading Language and Literacy and/or English Language Arts Curriculum / CERTIFICATIONS:Appropriate MA DESE licensure in Reading all grade levelsPHYSICAL DEMANDS:The employee must be able to remain stationary for extended periods and occasionally move throughout the school building as needed. Regular use of hands for typing handling objects and operating tools is required along with sufficient grip strength for various tasks. The role involves frequent use of a computer and standard office equipment such as a calculator copier and printer. The employee must be able to enter data read from screens and review handwritten or printed materials with or without visual aids. Clear and effective communication with students parents and colleaguesboth in person and over the phoneis essential. Strong visual and auditory awareness is necessary to ensure student safety and provide meaningful ENVIRONMENT:The employee will be working in a normal school environment with an acceptable level of noise. The employee interacts with students parents and other staff members. The employee is directly responsible for the safety wellbeing and work output of students. While the majority of the work day is spent inside the employee must spend time outdoors for fire drills and/or special activities.
