Senior Project Manager Water/Wastewater Operations and Optimization
Public Works Water and Wastewater Operations
Status: Regular Full Time
Salary Range: $114196 to $142747 per hour (plus comprehensive benefits where applicable)
Work Mode: Hybrid; 2 onsite days per week *see below for more details about this work mode.
Location:2307 Lakeshore Rd W Mississauga ON. Candidate must be able to travel to various Peel Region Water Treatment Plants within Brampton Mississauga and Caledon.
Hours of work:35 Hours per week
Who we are:Water & Wastewater Operations is responsible for the daily operations and maintenance of the linear distribution and collection systems and our communal wastewater treatment plant and wells. The team is also responsible for the oversight of the operations and optimization at our large water and wastewater treatment facilities. Our business support team focuses on continual improvement initiatives and contract administration for the whole operations team. Check out this link to learn more:
Reports to: Manager Water & Wastewater Operations and Optimization
What you will do in this role:
Deliver large complex operations and optimization programs for groundwater surface water and wastewater treatment as well as water pumping and storage facilities. This includes research and pilot projects.
Manage multiple budgets stakeholders and vendors simultaneously ensuring alignment with project objectives and organizational goals.
Collaborate with managers and program managers to define project scope objectives deliverables schedules stakeholder roles and risk mitigation strategies.
Prepare terms of reference tender documents and requests for proposals; evaluate and select vendors through detailed proposal reviews.
Coordinate with Operations & Maintenance teams Capital and Treatment teams and Inspectors to align infrastructure work minimize service disruptions and ensure compliance with contract specifications.
Develop operational standards emergency protocols automation systems asset management practices and service level objectives in collaboration with internal teams and vendors.
Track forecast and report on budget expenditures while ensuring accountability and financial transparency.
Provide timely feedback on vendor performance and conduct formal performance reviews.
Foster productive relationships with municipal representatives conservation authorities government agencies industry associations contractors consultants and academic institutions to support project success.
Engage with residents business owners and councillors to build trust set clear expectations and provide timely project updates.
Communicate complex technical information clearly and concisely in written materials.
Stay current with emerging technologies regulations standards and internal procedures to support continuous improvement.
Support annual capital budget development by identifying infrastructure needs business requirements and opportunities for process enhancements.
Promote a safe workplace by identifying and implementing safety improvements.
What the role requires:
- An undergraduate bachelors degree in engineering
- 5 years of direct working experience in planning operations biosolids management research studies and design of municipal infrastructure including watermains/sanitary sewers and/or water/wastewater treatment facilities pumping and storage facilities. Applicants with an equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered.
- Thorough knowledge of municipal procurement policies and procedures tendering/contract process value engineering contract administration Environmental Assessment process Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations and the Safe Drinking Water Act and regulations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word Excel Microsoft Project Outlook and GIS.
- Must have a valid Class G license and access to a vehicle.
Skills/Abilities:
- Highly effective interpersonal skills to prevent or resolve conflict with staff contractors suppliers residents councilors and other stakeholders.
- Superior verbal and written communication skills to prepare reports technical memos conduct training and oral presentations/discussions and liaise with a variety of individuals at various levels and to represent the Region at meetings.
- Diplomacy tact and organizational awareness to work with a variety of individuals consultants contractors and key stakeholders to coordinate work avoid conflict and drive progress.
- Strong project management negotiating organizational and presentation skills.
- Demonstrate a commitment to diversity equity and inclusion through continuous development modeling inclusive behaviors and proactively managing bias
Nice to have:
- Thorough knowledge of water distribution/sanitary sewers transmission pumping storage and/or treatment processes design and construction practices codes and standards. Knowledge and experience in SCADA electrical mechanical and civil engineering related to large scale water/wastewater treatment and pumping facilities is a considerable asset.

Work Mode & Job Location:
In this role youll benefit from the flexibility of a hybrid work arrangement that prioritizes meaningful inperson connection. A minimum of two days per week onsite is expected with additional inperson presence as operational needs evolve. This arrangement allows for a blend of in person and hybrid work that adapts to support both organizational priorities and employee flexibility and is subject to change over time.
Its important to note that your offsite work location must be within the province of Ontario. This ensures that were compliant with all regulations and policies.
