The Senior Database Administrator IT Operations provides senior level technical support and subject matter expertise in providing Database Management for Digital Excellence in Healths mission critical 24 x 7 services.
The Senior Database Administratoris responsible for providing technical direction mentoring and support to Specialists and providing Team Lead and Manager Infrastructure Services with technical recommendations and advice. This includes keeping up to date on database technologies and tools database currency strategy high availability and disaster recovery for critical electronic health records.
The Senior Database Administratorprovides support of new initiatives and projects while interacting with Project/Program Managers Business partners technical Leads and Service Managers
Here is what you will be doing:
- Maintains and evolves relationships with external organizations and communities of practice with respect to specific subject areas within the Health System.
- Guides and influences product owners and vendor partners to align solutions to Ontario Healths digital vision.
- Collaborates with guides and mentors junior and peer DBAs by elevating their breadth and scope of knowledge of data solutions the Healthcare domain and best practices and supporting the development of database solutions and documentation.
- Understands and translates operational business requirements into effective database structure and designs.
- Resolves business rules and information and application conflicts involving shared services applications and resources.
- Contributes to the development of database processes procedures templates etc. and the provision of assistance for others.
- Works with product management to support roadmaps and architectural alignment to ensure delivery of project and product objectives.
- Provides alternative solutions to solve business and technical problems.
- Maintains ownership of Architecture service quality at the Product and Project Level for their assigned work.
- Fosters sustainable trusted relationships with stakeholders partners colleagues and superiors.
- Acts as subject matter expert to stakeholders in specialized areas such as databases and database management.
- Acts as a subject matter expert for OH partners to support understanding the use of database products and services.
- Works with internal stakeholders to understand business needs across OH and their impact on specific products/portfolios.
- Identifies and escalates issues and works with clients to ensure adherence to application database management and quality standards.
- Provides thought leadership across program areas.
- Guides and influences project team to align and build with an eye to OHs architectural principles and industry best practices. Contributes to roadmaps and product vision. Provides alternative solutions and options for business and technical challenges. Identifies dependencies in project/product deliverables and provides guidance for planning and delivery.
- Leads project teams with currency upgrades as per Technology Road Map. Plans patching and upgrades.
- Influences and guides lead developers on database best practices and principles.
- Collaborate with peers and programs to ensure alignment of database practices patterns and solutions.
- Stays current on business strategy and assesses new trends with respect to Ontario Healths business needs and identifies opportunities impacts and transformations required to realize their value and assess their implications on the future state of specific products or portfolios.
- Stays abreast of technology architecture and solution design trends.
- Works with internal stakeholders and external vendors understand business needs across OH and trends in IT across the broader health system as they relate to specific database products or portfolios.
- Maintains awareness that databases are foundational to all our health care applications and any error would impact patient care.
Here is what you will need to be successful:
Education and Experience:
- Bachelors degree in Health Information Management Information Technology or related field.
- Directly/indirectly related work experience representing continuous learning required for someone to perform this job competently is ten or more years in IT with minimum three to five years as a DBA on product/service/technology/health care domain(s).
- Understanding of Ontario Health business goals and mandate and how it applies to the provincial health care system.
- Knowledge of Ontario Health and the broader Ontario health care sector IT systems to ensure product dependencies are identified and managed.
- Knowledge of Database disciplines such as Business Application Information Infrastructure Privacy and/or Security.
- Knowledge of service management control and architecture frameworks such as ITIL.
- Experience working with the following:
- Oracle database installation patching upgrades configuration backup and recovery performance turning and administration
- Oracle Grid Infrastructure
- Oracle RAC (Real Application Clusters)
- Oracle ASM (Automatic Storage Management)
- Oracle ACFS (ASM Cluster File System)
- Oracle RMAN (Recovery Manager)
- Oracle Standby Databases: Physical and logical configurations
- Oracle Database Versions: Strong working knowledge of Oracle 12c 19c and 23ai.
- Solaris and RedHat: Experience with Zones and LDOMs and UNIX Server Administration.
- Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM): Proficiency in Grid Control 13c or higher.
- Oracle Replication Technologies: Expertise in 12c or higher Active Data guard and Golden Gate.
- Oracle Database Encryption Technologies
- Oracle Database networking
- Experience supporting Databases in onprim infrastructure
- Experience supporting or migrating Databases to cloud infrastructures would be an asset
- Experience in scheduled maintenance and deployment/release activities
- ITIL certification V3 / V4 Foundation.
- Knowledge of Public Sector procurement legislation policies and practices.
- Good understanding of tools and techniques for managing changes incidents and problems (BMC Remedy or another similar tool).
- Operational and functional knowledge of mediumtolarge multidata centre oriented infrastructure.
- Good understanding of highly available/scalable architectures and disaster recovery techniques.
Knowledge and Skills
- Ability to lead project work in a domain communicating and guiding consumers and projects from assets business and technical aspects.
- Ability to apply IT privacy and security standards principles and regulations applicable to health database solutions.
- Ability to apply health information management.
- Ability to work on prioritize and deliver projects/initiatives according to agreedupon timelines amidst constantly changing priorities.
- Facilitation negotiation and communication skills both orally and written to support internal partner engagement deliver presentation material designing documents and/or training material for technical audiences.
- Technically savvy with business understanding and the ability to communicate to internal business stakeholders and technical staff alike to build consensus and resolve technical issues and conflicts.
- Ability to understand disparate health IT systems place in the Health System and compare and contrast solutions and patterns to recommend/propose efficient and effective database solutions.
- Ability to identify gaps and opportunities within a domain sector and/or solution.
- Ability to understand various types of business privacy security and financial risks and to collaborate with peers and senior DBAs to define mitigation strategies.
- Ability to perform work with a high level of autonomy in setting objectives based with minimal direction from management. Ability to be aware of control and express ones emotions and to handle interpersonal relationships judiciously and empathetically within product/project team.
- Ability to provide oncall support 24 x 7.
