Job Description

Job Summary/Basic Function:

The Associate Vice President (AVP) for Development provides strategic direction operations oversight and leadership to Boise States development efforts. The AVP is responsible for key development staff and college/unit development directors. They will implement the Foundations strategic development framework; determine and implement goals for development staff; and provide oversight and leadership direction that result in successful fundraising operations. This position will serve as a key member of the Foundations leadership team reports to the Foundations Chief Executive Officer and works with other University and Foundation leaders college deans department chairs faculty and volunteers.

This is an internal opportunity open only to current benefiteligible employees of Boise State University.

A nonprofit Idaho organization the Boise State University Foundation was established in 1964 for the benefit of Boise State University. We work to secure philanthropic support for the university by developing and nurturing relationships with our alumni and friends and stewarding gifts made to support Boise State. The Foundation works closely with university leadership the Boise State University Alumni Association and the Bronco Athletic Association.

Mission: To build a greater Boise State University we provide fundraising leadership and service across the university and partner with donors and alumni to inspire private support.

Level Scope:

Accountable for leading departments or major areas within a division through managers and directors. Works under broad administrative direction with responsibility for providing strategic leadership and direction in the planning implementing improving and evaluating of an administrative department and promoting operational improvements. Oversees and provides direction for budgets and operational forecasts. Makes complex independent decisions for situations with precedent to ensure department or area within a division objectives are met.

Essential Functions:

95 of the time the Associate Vice President for Development will:

  • Lead direct and motivate Foundation staff in the areas of fund and friend raising athletic advancement corporate and foundation relations annual fund donor relations social networking and universitywide development services.
  • Create an inspirational philanthropic culture within the Foundation and the University.
  • Work closely with Deans and Development teams in the formulation implementation and monitoring of development goals and plans for schools/colleges and various other campus constituencies. Specific activities include:
    • Establishing metrics
    • Assigning prospects
    • Conducting prospect coordination meetings
    • Developing prospect strategies
    • Assessing progress
  • Maintain a portfolio of prospects and personally cultivate and solicit major gifts.
  • Work with the Foundation Board University partners and other volunteers to lead assigned Universitywide initiatives that promote a culture of philanthropy and have a direct impact on development and fundraising activities.

5 of the time the Associate Vice President for Development will:

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge Skills Abilities:

  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of prospect management major gift raising annual fund operations advancement services and the best practices in academic fundraising.
  • Demonstrated ability to raise major gifts.
  • Manages relationships with a portfolio of prospective donors with responsibility for qualification cultivation solicitation and stewardship.
  • Experience leading a comprehensive campaign and the ability to translate priorities into action plans and results.
  • Ability to build and motivate a team of fundraising professionals.
  • Proven track record in major gift cultivation and solicitation.
  • Excellent interpersonal presentation verbal and written communications skills.
  • Solid knowledge and understanding of computer software including database programs.
  • Critical thinker with proven analytical abilities.
  • Strategic planning skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail including the ability to manage a large variety of tasks set priorities and manage the involvement of other staff.
  • Ability to problem solve and deal diplomatically with challenging issues situations and people across the entire institution.
  • Ability to delegate and manage numerous projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to motivate build longterm relationships with and gain the respect of internal and external constituents.
  • A passion for service excellence integrity and strong work ethic.
  • Competency in navigation of donor database systems and related software.
  • Must be willing to travel.
  • Must be organized and demonstrate the ability to work under pressure.
  • Ability to maintain sensitive and confidential information.

MinimumQualifications:

Bachelors degree or equivalent plus 10 years experience including 6 years managerial experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in higher education fundraising.
