Job Purpose/Description: The Manager of Learning Resources and Engagement plays a vital leadership role within the Conservation Education Department ensuring cohesive support across all Conservation Education Department Units and key Departments across the Saint Louis Zoo that empowers education staff to lead impactful programming. This position supervises the teams responsible for program registration educational resource management and crossdepartmental engagement. It also provides strategic direction fosters team cohesion and contributes to the departments leadership and longterm planning efforts.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supervise the Lead Conservation Education Registrar Zoo Librarian and Conservation Education Liaisons.
- Provide strategic direction mentorship and professional development support for direct reports.
- Lead regular team checkins and promote a collaborative missiondriven team culture based on the Saint Louis Zoos three keys and core values.
- Oversee and coordinate program registration and administrative processes that support conservation education programs across the Department.
- Serve as the escalation point for registrationrelated inquiries special requests and guest concerns.
- Support the work of the Zoo Librarian to ensure resource accessibility and alignment with staff and program needs.
- Support the work of the Conservation Education Liaisons in sharing current research animal care updates and conservation stories with conservation education staff to inform content and program development.
- Foster effective communication and collaboration across departments to enhance education offerings and staff preparedness.
- Provide oversight and support for departmentwide staff training knowledge sharing and teambuilding efforts.
- Interface with IT and A/V Departments on the management and use of software programs and technology resources utilized by multiple units across the Department like a cloud content management system and classroom monitors.
- Contribute actively as a member of the Conservation Education Department Leadership Team collaborating on strategic planning and crossfunctional coordination.
- Manage the operating budget associated with learning resources registration services and liaison programs.
- Monitor spending identifies funding needs and ensures responsible resource allocation.
- Represents the department at internal and external meetings and publicfacing events as needed.
- Maintains flexibility to work evenings and weekends as required for program support or special events.
Qualifications:
- Required:
- Bachelors degree in Education Museum Studies Library Sciences Conservation or a related field required; Masters degree preferred.
- Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in education program administration or resource management.
- Demonstrated supervisory experience.
- Strong organizational communication and leadership skills.
- Budget management experience required.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (especially Word and Excel).
- Ability to manage sensitive information with discretion and professionalism.
- Flexibility to work occasional weekends and evenings.
- All successful candidates for this position will be required to undergo a criminal background check.
- Preferred:
- Experience working in a zoo aquarium museum or similar cultural institution.
- Experience working collaboratively across departments within an organization to foster a positive team environment.
- Familiarity with school or camp logistics including group travel and accommodations.
- Experience with records management
- Knowledge of child safety accessibility and data privacy practices in educational settings.
