Job Description

The Senior Trade Compliance Specialist works as an integral member of the Fortune Brands Innovations Transportation and Customs team. This role oversees the daytoday operations for all Trade Compliance and Customs related activities for the companys global divisions located in the U.S. Canada Mexico and China.

Position location: This position is eligible for a hybrid schedule based out of Deerfield IL. Effective mid2025 Fortune Brands will transition to a new worldclass campus in Deerfield bringing together associates from across our U.S. offices brands and functions. The campus will offer vibrant workspaces for collaboration along with amenities for dining onsite daycare fitness and recreation.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Focuses on import compliance management including but not limited to product classification valuation country of origin determination free trade agreements manufacturing assists duty reconciliation and recordkeeping.  Responds to FBIN Customs Broker with information regarding import shipments as required.
  • Manages the daytoday customs operations for FBIN; serves as a primary point of contact for Customs Broker and internal customers.
  • Collaborates with Product Managers Sourcing and Engineering teams to ensure the proper Harmonized Tariff Schedule number (HTS) and country of origin are applied to new and existing products globally; maintains valid HTS numbers in ERP systems.
  • Conducts post entry audits to assess the performance quality of Brokers entry filings; participates in internal audits and trade compliance assessments as required. 
  • Works with Finance to ensure proper and on time payment to Customs authorities.
  • Involvement with established Duty Drawback Programs across FBIN while supporting the implementation of other drawback programs across the company.
  • Supports the Sr. Trade Compliance Manager with developing and managing a comprehensive Global Trade Compliance Program for FBIN.
  • Provides training and education to internal customers to ensure import compliance with CBP rules and regulations.
  • Leads and supports special projects to improve or eliminate nonvalueadded processes.

Qualifications :

  • Bachelors degree in Logistics Operations Supply Chain or a related discipline or commensurate experience is required.
  • A minimum of 4 years of experience in previous compliance positions is required. 
  • Customs Brokerage License (CLB) preferred but not required.
  • Extensive knowledge and familiarity with Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS) product classification U.S. and overseas import regulations.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications; Excel required; SAP and/or Oracle ERP systems.
  • Good problem solving analytical and presentation skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for interaction with Customs personnel and internal and external customers.
  • Comfortable working in a fastpaced dynamic environment. Ability to adapt to situational demands of the business. 
  • Ability to travel both domestically and internationally.
  • Global experience is preferred.

Additional Information:

Fortune Brands believes in fair and equitable pay. A reasonable estimate of the base salary range for this role is Hiring Pay Range: $60000 USD $97500 USD. Please note that actual salaries may vary within the range or be above or below the range based on factors including but not limited to education training experience professional achievement business need and location. In addition to base salary employees will participate in either an annual bonus plan based on company and individual performance or a rolebased sales incentive plan.
