Head of Primary American School of Wrocaw
Purpose of Role
Thisis a senior leadership position with the American School of Wroclaw. The Head of Primary is a direct report to the Principal / Head of School. The American School of Wroclaw (ASW) was founded with one purpose to build a space for all students to grow learn and create with each passing day. Through a unique teaching approach and a truly passionate staff we help students develop academically and personally to the highest level. Established in 2011 the American School of Wroclaw is an independent school serving a multicultural student body. We offer an exemplary American Core Knowledge curriculum and the Polish National Education Program with an international perspective for students from Nursery to Grade 5. In grades 612 we offer International Baccalaureate (Middle Years Programme and Diploma Programme). We are committed to providing educational excellence through a standardsbased internationally enriched curriculum. Our program places a balanced emphasis on both the Polish and English languages so as to equip students with bilingual competency. Key Responsibilities
  • Support the Principal in the monitoring and evaluation of the standards and quality of learning and teaching and childrens achievement
  • Develop and maintain links with parents with regards to academic attainment including organizing and leading parentteacher meetings
  • Lead teachers in further development of a classroom environment and teaching practice which secures effective learning and teaching across the breadth of the curriculum.
  • Timetable subject allocation for a broad and balanced curriculum and adaptations made in line with Polish and International requirements.
  • Ensure curriculum progression and continuity through curriculum planning (Long and Medium Term planning) and mapping
  • Audit and ensure provision of relevant teaching and learning resources including standardised assessments
  • Work collaboratively with the leadership team to ensure the safety safeguarding child protection and wellbeing for all children.
  • Conduct learning visits record areas of strength and areas for development and give feedback in a constructive manner.
  • Conduction regular learning visits to classrooms in accordance to the Looking at Learning guidance from ISP
  • Manage subject coordination utilising teacher strengths and interests
  • Plan analyse and execute the tracking and communication of student data and act upon pupil progress data in an efficient timely and constructive manner.
  • Promote diverse cultural awareness through assemblies and events.
  • Lead Primary Assemblies
  • Where applicable facilitate the smooth transition of students from the section below and to the section above.
  • Support the Principal in developing positive working relationships with and between all staff to provide and sustain motivation offering constructive comment and analysis where appropriate in order to promote and share best practice
  • Support staff in achieving the priorities and targets which the school sets itself and provide guidance in their implementation.
  • Onboard and mentor new teachers in school including providing support when relevant
  • Keep abreast with Group policies updates. Lead the Primary review of all policies relating to safeguarding teaching and learning at least biannually ensuring all policies remain compliant with all ISP group policies.
Strategic Direction and Development of the School:
  • Deploy and manage all teaching and nonteaching staff of the Primary school. Allocate particular duties to them in a manner consistent with their terms and conditions of employment maintaining a reasonable balance for each employee including the provision of cover for absent teachers
  • Collaborate with other school leaders in the twiceyearly Learning Improvement Process (LIP) reporting and annual School Improvement Plan (SIP) process.
  • Ensure that the duty of providing cover for absent teachers is shared equitably among all teachers and nonteachers taking account of their Contractual responsibilities.
  • Facilitate the professional growth of staff to ensure that all staff in the Primary Section have access to advice and training appropriate to their needs
  • Plan for parents to be given regular information about the school curriculum the progress of their children and other school matters so as to promote common understanding of its aim.
  • Work effectively with all parents to ensure open clear and mutually respectful and beneficial relationships between school and home at all times.
  • Allocate control and account for those financial and material resources of the school which are under the control of the Head of Primary section.
  • Keep uptodate with worldwide educational developments and select what and how to implement those of benefit to us in our unique situation
  • Participate in any scheme of staff development and performance review of the Heads of Sections who are directly reporting.
Pupil Welfare
  • Promote among the pupils selfdiscipline and proper regard for authority encouraging good behaviour.
  • Monitor and coordinate the welfare of students from Nursery to Grade 6 with Class Teachers teaching assistants and the Principal.
  • Ensure high levels of attendance are maintained by all students and timely reports submitted to ISP Group.
  • Maintain timely accurate and useful feedback and reporting to parents concerning academic behavioural social and emotional issues ensuring that all communication is of a high professional standard and respects confidentiality
  • Lead the organisation of activities and events relevant to students in the Primary Section
  • Ensure parents are kept informed of weekly activities and coordinate with parents concerning activities events and trips as required.
  • Ensure staff compliance with all Risk Assessments and school policies
General
  • Leading Primary staff meetings
  • Delivering leading and/or facilitating Pedagogical Day sessions in line with the School Improvement Plan and Learning Improvement Process
  • Implementing new processes and systems and the evaluation of these and Action Plans as part of the schools selfevaluation processes
  • Meeting regularly with the other Heads of Section to discuss operational matters
  • Organising lesson and duty cover for absent staff
  • Setting up pupil and staff subscriptions to learning resources eg Mathletics Active Learn
  • Proof reading of Student Reports.
  • Undertaking break duties as required
  • Covering absent staff on an ad hoc basis
  • Checking risk assessments trip organisation form and communication to parent for trips including relevance of trips to curricular goals
  • Coordinate the order of books and stationary for the main annual order and on an ad hoc basis
  • Promote and communicate ASW and ISP Values and Objectives
  • Liaise with ISP Regional Learning Director in an effective manner to ensure the continual improvement of student learning and curriculum provision in the school.
Skills Qualifications and Experience
  • University Degree in relevant education field
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or recognized relevant international equivalent
  • Minimum of 4 years in an education leadership position or similar role
  • Experience in leading IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) is an advantage
  • Fluent in both English and Polish both written and spoken
  • Knowledge of both Polish primary curriculum and American or English national primary curriculum
  • Demonstrated participation in continuous professional development
  • Good knowledge of IT technologies and previous experience with school management information systems (e.g. iSAMS)
