For the 202526 academic year we are seeking a talented educator to fill a fulltime Social Studies teaching position. This position requires a Rhode Island secondary certification or eligibility to acquire public charter high school serves 350 students from three cities Central Falls Pawtucket and Providence RI who are admitted through a blind lottery. Our school is incredibly diverse and students are challenged to excel in our rigorous and supportive environment. Candidates should be seeking a position in a collaborative innovative educational environment focused on college preparation and community improvement. They should be comfortable developing curricula working closely with colleagues and should have a strong understanding of all the relevant Common Core State Standards. We utilize a proficiencybased instructional and assessment system. As Blackstone Academy is an Essential School applicants should be familiar with the Coalition of Essential Schools philosophy and guiding principles. Blackstones faculty and staff consciously integrate socialemotional learning into the curriculum so applicants should have a firm understanding of the importance and power of socialemotional learning. In addition to managing a full teaching load this teacher will also be an advisor. Blackstones robust advisory system is a central component of our program. Advisories meet twice daily and the advisor is the primary guide for advisees/parents through our course requirements and portfolio system. The Blackstone advisor helps students stay on track to graduate and develop the important social emotional skills necessary to succeed in whatever their chosen path. Finally this teacher will likely instruct one of our signature Community Improvement Projects (CIPs). CIPs are the projectbased learning activities that are at the heart of the schools approach to applying learned skills to the resolution of local community problems. CIPs are graduationrequired and teachers get a great deal of support in developing and running CIPs as they are unique to our salary commensurate with years of experience.
