Association of Washington Cities (AWC) is recruiting a fulltime Accounting Manager to join our dynamic and customer orientated team.
Founded in 1933 AWC is a private nonprofit nonpartisan organization which provides a wide array of services to all 281 cities and towns in the state of Washington. AWC builds connections between our states diverse cities and towns while providing our members with the support needed to thrive through delivery of datadriven education nationally recognized polling programs and nonpartisan advocacy. Summary:
The purpose of this position is to manage the daytoday functions of the accounting department including prepare examine and analyze accounting records financial statements and other financial reports for all the financial aspects of the organization and any other contracted financial service obligation supervise mentor and support accounting staff. The job incumbent must assess accuracy completeness and conformance to AWC policy as well as compliance with reporting and procedural standards.

The salary range for this position is $105401 $158102. The top candidates placement within the range will reflect education training and experience consistent with AWC policies.
This position is eligible to telework on certain days of the week subject to approval and as determined by AWC.

What youll be doing
- Oversee the daily operations of the accounting department; oversee all transactions related to the GL receivables payables payroll memberships and financial reporting
- Develop implement and maintain financial controls and guidelines in collaboration with CFO
- Implement consistent accounting policies practices and procedures across all programs
- Review monthly bank reconciliations for all accounts
- Coordinate and prepare monthly financial statements for the organization and any other contracted service obligations of the organization
- Lead the preparation of annual budget including management of budget data input in accounting system
- Monitor and analyze monthly operating results against budget
- Direct the preparation of all necessary financial information for the required organizations board meetings or any other governance boards that contracts with the organization for financial services
- Supervise documentation of process workflows procedures checklists and policies for accounting and administrative tasks
- Manage accounting system implementations and upgrades
- Evaluate the effectiveness of accounting software and supporting database as needed
- Administer benefit administration including COBRA and 401k 457 and Section 125 plans
- Ensure compliance with required benefit and disclosure notices
- Provide detailed information required to facilitate the organizations audit and corporate tax return processes and audits and tax returns of all other contracted services. Investigate and resolve audit findings account discrepancies and issues of noncompliance
- Facilitate and participate in all necessary assistance to internal and external customers on a variety of programs and service deliverables provided by the organization
- Supervise the completion of required monthly billings to all entities contracting with the organization
- Ensure compliance with recognized accounting standards and local state and federal requirements; lead implementation of any new GASB statements and FASB accounting standards updates (ASUs) applicable to the organization and its operations
- Protect assets by establishing monitoring and enforcing internal controls
- Incumbent may travel to trainings and events; overnight stays generally will not exceed 5 nights a year
Requirements:
- 5 years experience in accounting tax audit finance and budget with a nonprofit
- 3 years experience in a supervisory position or demonstrated leadership ability
- Bachelors degree in a related field; CPA certification must be obtained within one year of starting date
- Maintain a Washington State drivers license in good standing
What you bring to the team:
- Extensive knowledge of accounting standards and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) including Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) and Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) updates and implementations
- Ability to perform and oversee essential accounting duties for the organization and those required through contracts with the Employee Benefit Trust and Risk Management Service Agency
- Knowledge of Public Disclosure Commission regulations relating to lobbyist reporting requirements of employers
- Ability to effectively oversee the work of a diverse team of staff members involved in a variety of activities
- Ability to work in a team environment; other duties may be assigned but not specifically defined to fulfill a current operational need
- Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of people both within and outside of the organization
- Knowledge of arithmetic statistics and their applications
- Ability to pay extremely close attention to detail and to monitor ones own work for errors
- Ability to meet deadlines and provide timely financial statements
- Ability to be flexible and open to changing priorities and managing multiple tasks simultaneously within compressed timeframes
- Ability to plan organize and prioritize multiple diverse work tasks for self and the overall financial services operations
- Proficiency in Microsoft 365 office products accounting and payroll software and the ability to learn and use a wide variety of proprietary software
- Ability to make effective decisions and to act independently in managing and coordinating assigned duties
- Skilled at leading and managing projects
- Good time management skills and the ability to be selfdriven by meeting deadlines and completing assigned tasks in the time assigned by the supervisor
- Ability to model the organizations high standards of quality customer service to all internal and external customers represent AWC in a positive and professional manner while using tact discretion and courtesy

Working conditions:
The incumbent may work irregular hours and may begin and end work beyond the normal workday when necessary. Work performed primarily in an office setting and is sedentary in nature with prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Incumbent must be able to lift and carry objects up to 30 pounds at times. Work may involve standing for long periods stooping repetitive motions with hand wrist and fingers. Driving an automobile may be necessary incumbent may spend prolonged periods in a vehicle.
