The Fire Prevention Section is anticipating two openings.
One is located in Tacoma and the other located in Bellevue.
The Bellevue location will receive 5 in addition to their salary.

About the Position:

As a Deputy State Fire Marshal Inspector in this position is responsible for completing fire and life safety inspections of state licensed facilities including nursing homes hospitals ambulatory surgical centers assisted living facilities group homes residential treatment facilities enhanced services facilities childcare facilities and schools. Provide training education and information when required and conduct acceptance inspection in support of the plan review program.

  • This position reports to a Chief Deputy State Fire Marshal in the Fire Prevention Division.

  • Employee independently performs all assignments using knowledge of established policies and work objectives.

  • Employee plans and organizes the work and assists in determining priorities and deadlines. May deviate from standard work methods guidelines or procedures in order to meet work objectives.

  • Employee exercises independent decisionmaking authority and discretion to decide which work methods to use task to perform and procedures to follow to meet work objective

  • Completed work is reviewed for effectiveness in producing expected results

About the Division:This positions supports theContinuity of Operations Plan (COOP) Designation For Disaster or Emergency Recovery
This position is listed in the COOP essential functions for coordination and assistance with assessing licensed care facilities (hospitals nursing homes etc.. fire and life safety systems following a major disaster.

Travel Requirements:
Some travel within and outside the state will be required for court testimony and attendance at meetings and training events.

Conditions of Employment:
  • Successful completion of a preemployment polygraph examination and background investigation.
  • Must complete within 1st year of employment: ICC Fire inspector 1 and 2 CMS Life Safety Code IFSAC Fire Instructor I IFSAC Fire Inspector I or NFPA Fire Inspector I. (IFSAC Fire Inspector I or NFPA Fire Inspector I is a prerequisite for attending CMS Life Safety Code.
  • There may be additional prerequisites the employee is required to complete and/or attain prior to becoming certified.
  • You must submit a current cover letter when you apply.
