- The Fire Prevention Section is anticipating two openings.
One is located in Tacoma and the other located in Bellevue.
The Bellevue location will receive 5 in addition to their salary.About the Position:As a Deputy State Fire Marshal Inspector in this position is responsible for completing fire and life safety inspections of state licensed facilities including nursing homes hospitals ambulatory surgical centers assisted living facilities group homes residential treatment facilities enhanced services facilities childcare facilities and schools. Provide training education and information when required and conduct acceptance inspection in support of the plan review program.
This position reports to a Chief Deputy State Fire Marshal in the Fire Prevention Division.
Employee independently performs all assignments using knowledge of established policies and work objectives.
Employee plans and organizes the work and assists in determining priorities and deadlines. May deviate from standard work methods guidelines or procedures in order to meet work objectives.
Employee exercises independent decisionmaking authority and discretion to decide which work methods to use task to perform and procedures to follow to meet work objective
- Completed work is reviewed for effectiveness in producing expected results
About the Division:The FirePrevention Divisionis active in providing a variety of Fire Protection services includingall risk mobilizationfire inspectionson licensed care facilitiesplan reviewof schoolsdata collection analysishazardous materials training and the licensing and certification of thefire sprinklerfireworks andcigaretteindustries to both public and private sectors. These sections provide planning training and technical assistance for firefighters and emergency responders who are mobilized for statewide emergencies such as hazardous materials earthquakes nuclear facilities as well as other highrisk situations.This positions supports theContinuity of Operations Plan (COOP) Designation For Disaster or Emergency Recovery
This position is listed in the COOP essential functions for coordination and assistance with assessing licensed care facilities (hospitals nursing homes etc.. fire and life safety systems following a major disaster.

Duties
- Perform fire and life safety inspections of residential and health care facilities childcare and group homes to ensure compliance with state and/or federal laws and codes. Overtime may be required to fulfill inspection functions.
- Perform construction inspections to ensure compliance with applicable fire and building codes in support of the Bureau plan review program.
- Assists in the development and presentation of fire safety and prevention programs to reduce fires within the state.
- Develop a working partnership with jurisdiction within the assigned geographic area for the duties assigned.
Travel Requirements:
Some travel within and outside the state will be required for court testimony and attendance at meetings and training events.Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Must possess a valid unrestricted Washington State Drivers License or able to obtain one within 30 days of employment.
- High School Diploma
- This position is required to travel to and from inspection facilities to perform the essential functions of the position.
- Two years of experience as a fire prevention officer code enforcement officer: or insurance industry inspector.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively analyze information and communicate decisions and recommendations related to
fire and life safety requirements: organization and time management skills; knowledge and ability to apply
state construction methods and materials.
Conditions of Employment:- Successful completion of a preemployment polygraph examination and background investigation.
- Must complete within 1st year of employment: ICC Fire inspector 1 and 2 CMS Life Safety Code IFSAC Fire Instructor I IFSAC Fire Inspector I or NFPA Fire Inspector I. (IFSAC Fire Inspector I or NFPA Fire Inspector I is a prerequisite for attending CMS Life Safety Code.
- There may be additional prerequisites the employee is required to complete and/or attain prior to becoming certified.
