Position Title: Special Education Director
Reports to: Superintendent
The Special Education Director District 504 Coordinator and ALE Director is a licensed certified administrator who provides leadership to coordinate and supervise the effective delivery of all specialized educational settings.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following but are not limited to other duties as assigned.
- Develop Budget for VIB ARMAC Medicaid OWL Transition. Attend training and file all required documentation for budget approval with DESE throughout the fiscal year to include but not limited to: Budget MOE Cognos Reports AFR Reports Amendments Statement of Assurances
- Meet all DESE data reporting requirements: Financial Cycle Reports Data Cycle Data Review in My Sped Test Data in eschool Student enrollment in School Age Program Disproportionality (APR) and Significant Disproportionality School Surveys/Worksheets: Private School Home School In/Out School Roster In/Out State Roster Deaf Blind Early Childhood Excess Cost Time Certification Medicaid Certification ARMAC Certification etc
- Oversee invoices for VIB ARMAC Medicaid and OWL. Ensure bills applied to appropriate accounts coded correctly and forwarded to accounting for payment. Monitor budgeted amounts and file amendments when needed.
- Facilitate and participate in district and building level professional development. Provide PD and training for special education compliance rules/regulations etc. for teachers administrators bus drivers and paras: Seas Attain IEPs due process behavior confidentiality. Ensure paras have required training to meet DESE certification requirements.
- Schedule and facilitate transfer conferences and evaluation programming conferences for all PreK12 grades. Monitor 3 year reevaluation/review of existing data files. Hold referral revocation and reevaluation conferences separate programming and parent/teacher conferences when needed. Attend annual review at risk of failure separate programming and any additional conferences at student/parent/teacher request.
- Serve as ARMAC Coordinator: Maintain district roster annual testing review district reimbursement district certification monitor responses from participants.
- Annually order and distribute supplies and equipment for special education personnel: electronic/technology equipment protocols masks gloves faces shields wipes classroom supplies. Maintain VIB equipment purchase list and storage location. Maintain confidentiality of all special education records and ensure safe destruction of personal files.
- Serve as a member of the District Curriculum Team and District Mental Health Coordinator.
- Oversee contracts with and payments to related services providers and school based mental health providers. Related services providers include occupational therapy physical therapy audiology and vision services.
- Maintain a specialized transportation list and communicate with the Transportation Department to determine needs of students with disabilities riding buses.
- Interview applicants with building principals/team and verify certification. Maintain a file of qualified applicants for special education positions.
- Conduct child find activities for early childhood and school age throughout the year.
- Coordinate and Lead 504 for the District
- Coordinate and lead Alternative Learning Programs for the district. Work with ALE teachers and staff to ensure all standards for enrollment and classroom environments are met. Ensure state funding is maximized to support personnel and student needs.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES The Director of Special Education and District 504 Coordinator manages and supervises teachers and therapists who serve special education students. The Director is responsible for implementing and maintaining age 321 Special Education programs and services in conformance to district state and federal objectives and laws; planning designing and implementing all phases of service provided by the Special Education staff; serving as a resource to patrons school personnel and the Board; and maintaining adequate staffing to ensure objectives of programs and services are achieved within budget. This position reports directly to the Superintendent.

EDUCATION CREDENTIALS and/or EXPERIENCE
- Valid Arkansas Educator and Administrative License in Special Education
- Masters Degree or higher in Special Education and/or Administration
- Classroom experience in K12 setting
