The Clinical Laboratory Technician II will perform a variety of laboratory procedures including diagnostic tests for the identification of patients with inherited metabolic disorders according to precise procedures in the laboratory manual as well as experimental procedures for the purposes of research as directed by the laboratory director/assistant director.
1. Perform quantitative extraction purification and derivatization of sterols and lipids fromhuman fluids tissues or cultured cells according to established laboratory procedures.
2. Perform quantitative extraction purification and derivatization of organic acids by routine screening met hods and by stable isotope dilution analysis from human fluids according to established laboratory procedures.
3. Prepare samples for quantitative analysis of amino acids from human fluids according to established laboratory procedures.
4. Maintenance of human cell lines and performance of a variety of analyses in order to characterize unknown peroxisomal/sterol disorders with supervision. These duties include establishing and maintaining lymphoblast and fibroblast cell cultures the planning and of diagnostic experiments and maintenance of all cell analysis and storage records.
5. Perform assays for LC/MS according to established laboratory procedures and perform basic functions required for instrument operation.
6. Basic maintenance and repair of GC and GC/MS instruments with supervision.
7. Processing and analysis of data from GC GC/MS LC/MS/MS and Biochrom instruments.
8. Packaging and shipping of biological samples within and outside the USA. Timely shipping of sample kits to clinical trial participants and other clients whom require them.
9. Receive incoming samples: Open sample packages. Verify identity of sample with sample submission form. Verify that submission form contains all necessary information and accurately log information into laboratory workbook. Process samples and transfer to laboratory storage vials if needed.
10. Utilize share and maintain standard laboratory equipment such as centrifuges balances Ph meters sonicators oven evaporators digital pipettes as well as liquid and thin layer chromatographs.
11. Follow established department policies quality assurance safety environmental and infection control. Keep updated in safety procedures for the handling storage and disposal of biohazardous infectious radioactive and toxic substance ensuring that all laboratory activities are carried out in compliance with such procedures.
12. Work as a team member to share in laboratory work load maintenance of equipment clean work area and consumable supply needs. Attend laboratory seminars and meetings.
EDUCATION:
Bachelor of Science or Arts degree required.
Coursework in chemistry mathematics and biology preferred.
Certified medical technician will be considered in lieu of Bachelors degree.
EXPERIENCE:
Previous work experience as a laboratory or medical technician in a high complexity laboratory preferred.
