Job Description

PAY GRADE: I

FLSA STATUS: NonExempt

POSITION OBJECTIVE:

The position is primarily responsible for providing support for the college and career program and supporting students in their postsecondary plans. Primary duties include assisting students with completion of forms essays and applications; coordinating career and college visits and events; acting as a school representative for colleges and employers; and creating and presenting informational presentations and materials.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: (These duties are a representative sample; position assignments may vary.

  1. Prepares a variety of communications related to college and career planning to be disseminated to parents and students utilizing a variety of media. Assists students with selecting high school classes to meet the qualifications for acceptance into specific schools and programs upon graduation.
  2. Advises and consults with parents and students regarding college testing college planning and career exploration. Administers career assessment inventories to students. Reviews assessment results with students and directs them to appropriate resources for further information.
  3. Prepares and facilitates daytime and evening presentations for classrooms and families providing an overview of available resources and tips related to planning for college and/or a career.
  4. Gathers and maintains information on scholarship opportunities; participates on the Scholarship Review Committee for nomination scholarships; schedules and conducts monthly scholarship review meetings; evaluates student backgrounds against scholarship requirements; ensures paperwork is complete for nominated students; communicates with students on the status of their scholarship application; and/or performs other related activities. Assists students in locating and completing legitimate scholarship opportunities.
  5. Attends meetings seminars and conferences held by colleges and universities to obtain updates and information to utilize in determining student fit for applicable schools and/or programs.
  6. Maintains uptodate career and college reference books; reviews and evaluates college testing programs. Monitors students who are conducting research in the college and career center; communicates study abroad and summer college programs. Foster a welcoming environment where all students feel supported.
  7. Administers and oversees the annual honors award ceremony which includes: scheduling facilities; soliciting community members to present awards; setting up facilities for the presentation of awards; preparing invitations to students and families; responsible for generating awards; preparing honors award ceremony and/or performing other related activities in relation to event planning.
  8. Plans field trips to local/in state colleges trade schools and career focused opportunities.
  9. Assist in planning and executing Districtwide events.
  10. Gathers annual senior post high school data via the senior survey.
  11. Collects statistical data for publication in the school profile.
  12. Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: (positions in this class typically require):

Bachelors and/or masters in related field of study preferred. or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.

LICENSING REQUIREMENTS: (positions in this class typically require):

Licensing Requirements:

Valid Arizona Drivers License.

Applicants recommended for hire will receive instructions on how to obtain a fingerprint clearance card as a condition of employment.

College admission processes and trends within the scope of college admission.

Career exploration techniques.

Educational requirements for various jobs.

Colleges universitiesand other postsecondary institutions and their associated admission requirements size location programs campus life and/or other related information;

Career planning processes and resources.

College entrance and exam requirements;

Navigating the financial aid process within college admissions.

Test preparation resources and knowledge in updates within the college board and ACT.

SKILLS: (position requirements at entry):

Skill in:

Providing customer service.

Using a computer and related software applications.

Coordinating activities with college campuses.

Locating scholarship opportunities.

Conducting Internet searches.

Administering and evaluating career interest inventories.

Analyzing data and information.

Matching student interests and abilities with appropriate colleges careers and financial aid resources.

Facilitating group presentations and discussions.

Conducting research on colleges and careers.

Consolidating large volumes of information into key information.

Communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers supervisors students and families the general public etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Positions in this class typically require: reaching finger dexterity and grasping talking hearing seeing and repetitive motions.

Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift carry push pull or otherwise move objects including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.

Return To Work Retirees will have an hourly rate approximately ninety percent 90 of the posted range.
