The incumbent will specialize in federal procurement requirements and management contracts for the USDA Child Nutrition Programs for South Dakota. This position will work with the Child Nutrition Programs team to manage evaluate and coordinate activities for nutrition programs including the National School Lunch School Breakfast Special Milk Afterschool Snack Child and Adult Care Food and Summer Food Service programs for the South Dakota Department of Education. The CANS main office is in Pierre SD. An alternative state facility/office may be considered for candidates who possess one or more of the preferred criteria. For those working outside of the main office there is an expectation of travel. In the first six months of employment the travel is expected to be > 50. The majority of travel would be to the main office in Pierre or other jobrelated travel. A SD drivers license or the ability to be licensed to drive a vehicle is required.
This is a fulltime 40 hours weekly position with the Department of Education. Collaboration with federal partners and travel is frequent. Flexibility for travel schedule is allowed. For more information on the Department of Education please visit .
Primary Responsibilities for this position Include:
working with the Child Nutrition Program team to direct manage and evaluate state and/or federal programs;
collaborating with Child Nutrition Program operators (e.g. school districts childcare centers nonprofits etc. to ensure rules and regulations are followed and program integrity is maintained;
reading and interpreting federal regulations to guide and assist Child Nutrition Program operators with questions about program operations;
planning developing and conducting training for Child Nutrition Program operators at meetings workshops webinars and/or conferences;
planning and conducting outreach to expand programming to new organizations;
assist with developing outreach materials.
In and outofstate travel is required for this position. Travel is estimated at between 3060; although actual travel amounts will be driven by needs of the job. Travel area will encompass the entire state of South Dakota.

Multitasking and Flexibility Work and manage several aspects of the Programs with consistent and professional representation of the department maintain resource library and website updates occasional work outside normal business hours.
Complete Accurate and Timely Ability to meet soft hard and competing deadlines on time with a high degree of accuracy.
Reading Comprehension Ability to process written text understand its meaning and integrate it with what the reader already knows.

Preference will be given to those who possess:
a degree in nutrition business or a related field;
credentials as a Registered Dietitian RD eligible or a dietetics background; and/or
direct experience administering a federal nutrition program federal grant management work in a program that utilizes federal procurement requirements or similar work.
