Job Description

Job Title: Math Support Teacher Exemption Status/Test: Exempt/Professional

Reports to: Campus Principal Asst. Supt. Curriculum Pay Grade: Local Teacher Pay Scale

Dept./School: Assigned Campus Date Revised: 5/10/2021

Primary Purpose:

The Math Support Teacher will work collaboratively with classroom teachers and students to implement a quality math program of researchbased instruction and intervention for grades K3 under the guidance of district and campus leadership.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

Degree in Elementary Education

Valid Texas teaching certificate EC4 or EC6

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Be able to serve as a model teacher to classroom teachers to provide appropriate resources to classroom teachers and to provide instruction/intervention to students.

Experience:

Three or more years of elementary math classroom teaching experience required in addition to training and experience in Math Workshop and best instructional practices for elementary math.



Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Instructional Strategies Management and Coaching

  1. Assist classroom teachers in planning math lessons
  2. Assisting math teachers in applying best practices in the classroom to promote numerical reasoning and critical mathematical processes
  3. Assist teachers with instructional interventions
  4. Assist teachers in collecting and interpreting data and in applying it to the planning of classroom instruction and
  5. Help provide training to all staff who will provide small group interventions for students.



Student Growth and Development

  1. Help teachers conduct ongoing assessments of student achievement in math through formal and informal testing
  2. Use data to provide targeted TEKS intervention for 3rd grade math students
  3. Work with all primary students to develop and grow their numeracy
  4. Plan resources and instructional guidelines for small group interventions and
  5. Be a positive role model for teachers and students and support the vision and mission of Sulphur Springs ISD.







School/Organizational Improvement

  1. Determine and direct planning activities and implement programs collaboratively with staff to ensure attainment of the schools mission and goals
  2. Identify analyze and apply research findings to facilitate school improvement
  3. Meet with gradelevel teams to develop an understanding of the math curriculum through effective lesson planning and
  4. Assist district and campus administration in identifying programmatic growth areas for the campus and grade level teams.

Communication

  1. Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues students parents and community members and
  2. Exhibit a high level of ethics and confidentiality in regard to student and teacher records and classroom performance.

Professional Growth and Development

  1. Participate in staff development activities to improve jobrelated skills
  2. Maintain current and efficient records including the preparation of reports and
  3. Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors

The math support teacher must maintain emotional control under stress as well as be very flexible to meet the needs of the teaching and administrative staffs. The duties will be physically demanding moving between rooms moving small stacks of textbooks media equipment desks and another classroom equipment.
