We invite you to learn more about our strategic plan and core priorities on our website at Academy Innovation School in partnership with the Multilingual Learner Department of Salem Public Schools launched a twoway immersion SpanishEnglish Dual Language program with two kindergarten classrooms during theschool year. The twoway immersion program will grow by one grade level each year. The school will add two 4th grade classrooms and a preschool classroom for school year 2425. The goals of the program are for all students regardless of language background to become bilingual and biliterate in Spanish and English to achieve academically in all subjects at high levels and to exhibit the skills and disposition of sociocultural competence.

What Youll Do:

The ELD teacher provides direct language instruction to English Learner (EL) students that serves as a powerful lever to increase English proficiency academic language acquisition and student achievement within the context of a Dual Language (Spanish/English) program.

Role Responsibilities

• Teaches pullout ELD classes to EL students of all proficiency levels that are aligned to WIDA CanDo Descriptors Common Core Standards and provide students with rigorous opportunities to engage in critical thinking and language learning in all domains
• Teaches wholeclass lessons in Dual Language classrooms that contain EL students
• Collaborates with DL classroom teachers to ensure high levels of BILITERACY in Spanish & English
• Plans curricula and daily lesson plans that are accessible scaffolded and utilize complex texts
• Promotes a positive classroom environment that celebrates the diversity of the student population and fosters a love of learning
• Demonstrates a commitment to excellence equity and high expectations for all students by building on the strengths that students bring to the language learning process
• Leverages extensive knowledge of first and second language acquisition in planning and collaborating with general education teaching colleagues coplans and coteaches as assigned by building principal
• Communicates regularly and proactively with parents and families in a culturally proficient manner
• Evaluates each students formative progress in English skills (listening speaking reading and writing) and prepares progress reports
• Serves as an advocate for the needs of the EL students on grade level and instructional teams
• Works under the general supervision of the building principal ML Director and/or other designated administrator to review student proficiency levels appropriate ELD services and EL data
• Additional duties may be assigned

Job Requirements:

• Bachelors Degree Required; Masters Degree preferred
• Required Massachusetts teaching certification/licensure in ESL 16
• Secondary license in Elementary or Special Education also preferred
• Ability to meet the expectations of the Massachusetts Standards and Indicators of Effective Teaching Practice
• Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) Endorsement (Required within 1year of start date)
• Maintain professional competence through inservice education activities provided by the District and/or in selfselected professional growth activities.
• Proficiency with technology (blended learning teacher/family communication suites (Remind preferred) Google GSuite Apps etc. desirable.
• Second Language (Spanish or Portuguese) Proficiency strongly preferred
• Bilingual candidates and candidates of color strongly encouraged to apply
• Current authorization to work in the United States

Special consideration for English Language Development Teachers: Teachers who provide English Language Development to our federally designated English Learners are required to provide services wherever the need for services exists within the entire district of Salem. While teachers may work at one building for the majority of their career the district may shift ELD teachers to different school buildings within their license area to meet the needs of our federally designated English Learners.

Salary: Teacher salaries in the Salem Public Schools are determined by the Salem Teachers Union collective bargaining agreement (see new 202427 language with updated salary information here.
