Job Description

Summary Objective

The purpose of this position is to provide semiskilled and skilled work in the installation servicing fabrication maintenance and repair of stationary mechanical equipment employed in the operation of the water treatment plants well fields pumping stations and wastewater on an assigned shift. Work assignments may vary between positions and shifts. Employees are required to perform with reasonable facility in several of the mechanical trades. Work may require the parttime operation of some machinery but emphasis is upon servicing maintaining and repairing equipment.

This class works under close supervision according to set procedures.

Essential Functions

The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.

  • Repairs services and maintains motors pumps chemical feed equipment overhead cranes conveyors crushers and other stationary machinery and equipment employed in the operation of water treatment plants well fields and pumping stations and assists in the installation of new machinery and equipment.

  • Performs welding acetylene burning brazing soldering minor carpentry and painting.

  • Operates and cares for hand and power tools in maintaining fabricating and repairing parts for machinery and equipment.

  • Performs related work as assigned.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Requires High School Vocational School graduation or GED equivalent.

Requires six months of experience in mechanical maintenance and repair work.

Physical Demands:

Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.

  • Performs light to medium work that involves walking or standing virtually all of the time and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or considerable skill adeptness and speed in the use of the fingers hands or limbs in tasks involving close tolerances or limits of accuracy.

Unavoidable Hazards (Work Environment):

Unavoidable hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken.

  • Involves routine and frequent exposure to: bright/dim light; dusts and pollen; extreme heat and/or cold; wet or humid conditions; extreme noise levels; animals/wildlife; vibration; fumes and/or noxious odors; traffic; moving machinery; electrical shock; heights; exposure to radiation; disease/pathogens; toxic/caustic chemicals.


Special Certifications and Licenses:

Collection W/S Maintenance Mechanic a C Certification in Florida Wastewater is preferred.

Distribution W/S Maintenance Mechanic requires Level 3 License from the Department of Environmental Protection.
