As a Senior Engineering Project Team Lead on the Hydraulic Mining Shovels (HMS) team you will serve as Platform Technical Lead for an assigned HMS machine platform directing all associated engineering activities. You will manage the planning and delivery of projects continually learn and stay abreast of innovative technology mentor and coach enterprise team members and deepen your professional network. You will interact with people from diverse technical and cultural backgrounds. The incumbent will work within the team and beyond the team with contractors suppliers customers and individuals working in many Caterpillar organizations. You will ensure products provide superior performance durability quality and serviceability. This position resides within the Hydraulic Mining Shovel Engineering team in Tucson AZ.

What You Will Do:

  • Manage all engineering deliverables across multiple machine systems (hydraulics structures engine installation etc. associated with an assigned HMS machine platform.

  • Provide technical leadership for machine New Product Introduction (NPI) programs working closely with NPI project manager.

  • Support product health organization using technical expertise and product knowledge in addressing machine Continuous Product Improvement (CPI) and customer issues.

  • Collaborate with the global manufacturing team to evaluate define and resolve design and manufacturing problems.

  • Direct all engineering product maintenance activities associated with the machine platform.

  • Lead global teams in the design of new products processes components and systems.

  • Develop maintain and communicate the bill of material structure for the Hydraulic Mining Shovel machine platform.

  • Interact with peers and supporting teams to maintain crossplatform productline commonality.

  • Provide guidance to other engineers responsible for portions of the product project to ensure development schedules are met.

  • Maintain machine requirements and technical specification documents.

  • Proactively identify roadblocks and work with teams to rapidly resolve to improve overall team and program efficiency.

  • Provide regular reports and updates both verbal and written to management and team members on machine platform activities.

  • Support marketing and commercial teams with technical information related to the machine platform.

  • Review platformspecific literature to ensure accuracy prior to publishing.

  • Conduct technical evaluations of major systems on competitive products.

  • Complete projects on time and on cost.

  • Acknowledge and raise managements awareness of tradeoffs between time resources and quality.

  • Communicate results to global customers suppliers team members and other business units.

  • Travels to foreign and domestic plants dealerships and customer job sites to solve design problems or to fieldtest locations to evaluate product improvements.

  • The Senior Engineering Project Team Lead role will not have supervisor responsibility for direct reporting employees. Instead you will direct resources assigned to your program from multiple supporting organizations.

  • Manages multiple highrisk highcost projects involving multiple stakeholders.

  • Coaches others in open communication among project stakeholders.

  • Monitors major projects for critical path and actual status versus planned.

Requirements Analysis: Knowledge of tools methods and techniques of requirement analysis; ability to elicit analyze and record required business functionality and nonfunctionality requirements to ensure the success of a system or software development project.

  • Plays an active or leading role in recording and storing requirement documents in various forms.

  • Ensures the successful completion of all major activities tasks and deliverables pertaining to the requirement analysis stage.

  • Produces detailed functional and information requirements models and documentation.

Troubleshooting Technical Problems: Knowledge of troubleshooting approaches tools and techniques; ability to anticipate detect and resolve technical problems in a manufacturing environment.

  • Evaluates business impact of failure and the criticality and timing of needed resolution.

  • Monitors machine performance and history; addresses excessive maintenance or repair needs.

  • Applies specific techniques for isolating a problem and defining resolution approach.

Product Design and Development: Knowledge of product features; ability to design build and develop a new product technology or service from concept through to production.

  • Leads crossfunctional teams assembled for the purpose of product design and development.

Degree Requirement:

Bachelors degree in an accredited Engineering curriculum.

Additional Information:

This position requires the candidate to work fulltime in the Tucson AZ office.

Domestic relocation is available.

Occasional travel 10 may be required to support activities at manufacturing and/or customer sites.

Summary Pay Range:

$144960.00 $217320.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors job level market locationjobrelated knowledge skills individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
