Job Description

Durango School District 9R is accepting applications for Coordinator of Student Support Services to join the team in the2025/2026 school year. Position beginsJuly 1 2025.

Work Calendar: 251 Days

Summary: The Coordinator of Student Support Services is responsible for designing implementing and evaluating programs that enhance the educational experience for all learners with a specific focus on comprehensive school counseling socialemotional learning behavioral health and specialized programs. This role involves coordinating with district and community resources to develop support systems for students and families aiming to improve student achievement and wellbeing. The Coordinator will oversee the development and implementation of the Comprehensive School Counseling Program. The Coordinator will provide guidance training and coaching to specialized program leaders special education teachers and special service providers. These specialized programs include the Specialized Program for Autism (SPA) Specialized Program for Affective Education (AE) and the Specialized Program for Significant Support Needs (SSN).

Qualifications:

  • Holds a teaching license.
  • Holds a valid Colorado Principal or Administrator License by the start of the position or candidate is eligible to hold a Colorado Temporary Educator Eligibility License as a principal.
  • Preferred background in Special Education and mental health.
  • Demonstrated successful experience working with students with unique needs particularly in socialemotional learning behavior and specialized programs.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Comprehensive School Counseling Services:
  • Oversee the development and implementation of the Durango School District 9R Comprehensive School Counseling Program.
  1. Student Wellness and Support Systems:
  • Support and refine the districts MultiTiered Systems of Support (MTSS) for Student Wellness emphasizing school culture and socialemotional learning.
  • Coordinate the districts Crisis Counseling Response Team and provide support for crisis prevention intervention and aftercare.

III. Specialized Program Leadership Support and Training:

  • Train and support special education teachers and paraeducators in developing and improving specialized programs using CDE Quality Indicators in collaboration with CDE.
  • Provide training and coaching on researchbased interventions for academic socialemotional and behavioral needs as outlined in student plans (RtI MTSS IEP or 504.
  • Offer direct training and support in Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs) and Behavioral Intervention Plans (BIPs) with a focus on data tracking analysis and using data to inform teacher practice.
  • Guide teachers through the IEP process including developing targeted IEP goals implementing progress monitoring systems collecting data and aligning instructional delivery with IEP goals.

  1. Program Management and Coordination:
  • Assist with the Extended School Year (ESY) program that is managed by the Special Education Coordinator.
  • Provide professional development in partnership with district leadership and service providers aligned with the districts mission and vision.
  • Facilitate discussions on student data (progress monitoring benchmark and district assessments) to help teachers develop action plans for appropriate programming.
  • Provide ongoing training and support to specialized program staff on best practices for collaborative partnerships with students staff and families.
  1. Supervision and Collaboration:
  • Coach evaluate and collaborate with staff (i.e. social workers BCBAs behavior interventionists etc. as directed by the Executive Director of Student Support Services.
  1. Administrative and Communication Duties:
  • Seek and apply for funding opportunities related to position responsibilities including local state and federal grants.
  • Assist in creating updating and implementing department procedures and structures.
  • Attend regional and statelevel meetings as a district representative and report back to stakeholders.
  • Engage with community stakeholders and organizations through communication planning advisory committees and collaboration.
  • Assist with budget development and monitoring.
  • Maintain frequent communication with parents/guardians regarding student achievement attendance and progress.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
