Knowledge plays a vital role at Hogan Lovells. The strategic purpose of the Knowledge Management team is to ensure that all those involved in delivering legal advice to clients have access to the knowledge and information they require to deliver a technically excellent efficient service; to devise new and innovative ways of sharing that knowledge with clients as part of client relationship management; to input knowledge into the firms continuous process improvement initiatives around legal service delivery; and to ensure that the firm is harnessing new technology to support those objectives.

Reporting

Direct line reporting is the Litigation Arbitration & Employment Practice Group leadership and a dotted line into the Regional Head of Knowledge.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include:


Knowledge Strategy:

  • Lead the development implementation and communication of the knowledge strategy for the group working closely with the practice group and Regional Head of Knowledge to ensure progress as against those strategic priorities.
  • Identify and drive efficiencies within the groups practice of law e.g. explore and pilot relevant legal technology/AI products and assist with legal process improvement to improve the groups ability to service its clients efficiently and in a costeffective manner.
  • Be a visible and active driver of a knowledgefirst culture within the group and promote the sharing and dissemination of knowhow within the team.
  • Represent the US Litigation Arbitration & Employment Practice Group in global firmwide knowledge projects and initiatives as and when required.

Legal Knowledge:

  • Lead the collection drafting maintenance automation and updating of the groups knowledge driving specifically the development of a comprehensive bestinclass library of model documents across the US litigation practice.
  • Strengthen pathways to collect and curate the groups highestvalue legal knowledge ensuring that the groups knowledge repositories surface consistent relevant highquality starting points for all lawyers.
  • Develop training materials for internal and external clients by drafting delivering and capturing training on different substantive areas of litigation arbitration and employment.

Current Awareness and Thought Leadership:

  • Identify draft and coordinate the development of highvalue thought leadership publications.
  • Identify key legal developments and hot topics that provide an opportunity to showcase the firms experience and insight via preparation of client alerts webinars seminars slide decks article submissions opportunities to pitch to the press and other clientfacing collateral; provide the legal research and legal technical content needed to produce such products.
  • Research monitor analyze and report to the group on legal market and industry developments and trends considering how they will affect the groups practice and its clients.
  • Assist with the groups efforts to find innovative ways of using its knowledge to add value to key client relationships by providing timely material to facilitate frequent interactions with clients.
  • Help the group to develop new legal products identify possible new services and innovative and efficient ways of working.

Relationship Building:

Lawyers

  • Develop relationships with lawyers who have experience relevant to the group and facilitate the sharing of quality knowledge and experience.
  • Respond to queries from lawyers and track queries to identify knowledge and training needs.
  • Introduce lawyers joining the group to the groups knowledge resources.

Firmwide Community

  • Coordinate with other Knowledge Lawyers supporting the group and with Knowledge Lawyers supporting other practice/industry sector groups sharing knowledge and best practices and encouraging the alignment of the groups knowledge plans with those of other groups.
  • Participate in knowledge community initiatives.
  • Follow and encourage global practices and standards.
  • Help to establish a knowledge sharing culture within the firm and the group.
  • Develop and promote the firms knowledge systems and processes within the group and liaise with lawyers to gather feedback.
  • Collaborate with the business services departments including Marketing & Business Development Learning & Development Research Services and IT.

Clientfacing work

  • Collaborate with Partners Marketing & Business Development and PR to identify opportunities to generate business from new and existing clients through articles briefing notes client events knowledge products.
  • Provide direct support to clients in respect of knowledge management issues and/or valueadd services.

Experience Required

  • Candidates must have at least 57 years of practice experience in litigation at a law firm or equivalent experience.
  • Candidates must have a J.D. with strong academic credentials from an ABAaccredited law school and be admitted to the D.C. Bar or bar of any state in which we have an office. We expect the Knowledge Lawyer to work 40 hours per week some of which could be working remotely but he or she should have the flexibility to work additional hours as needed.

The annualized salary range for this position is $220000 based on the candidates overall experience and other jobrelated factors permitted by law. This position may be eligible for a discretionary or an hoursbased bonus. In addition fulltime employees as well as some parttime employees will be eligible for the firms fringe benefits as they currently exist.
