Job Description
The Challenge
To efficiently operate the Surface Miner within various mining sites safely and in accordance with standard operating procedures to achieve planned production targets. The employee will be assigned to the Surface Miner for a fixed period of 12 months as this new technology is in a trial phase. Individual performance and compatibility will be reviewed after three months.
Qualifications :
The ideal applicant
- Grade 12 Certificate (20 points over 5 subjects including an E-symbol in English Mathematics and Physical Science) or equivalent National Senior Certificate
- Vocational training qualification in any relevant Engineering discipline will be an added advantage.
- Code 08 Drivers license (manual transmission).
- Experience and knowledge in earthmoving and/or maintenance of earthmoving machines within a production environment.
- Excellent safety awareness and good attendance track record.

Additional Information :
Key Areas of Responsibilities
- Operates the Surface Miner using the Trimble navigation system.
- Adjusts the drum cutting depth to achieve maximum production rates.
- Supervise the Surface Miner Assistants during the changing of GET on the machine and ensure that the Surface Miner Assistant conduct drum inspections after cutting each row.
- Performs Pre-Start inspections to identify equipment defects and report all deviations to the Surface Miner supervisor.
- Carries out inspections and checks in accordance with the manufacturer specifications and Namdeb maintenance standards as amended from time to time. This includes all systems on the machine.
- Reports all breakdowns to the Surface Miner Foreman/responsible workshop/VMS controller and follow-up on repairs.
- Operates the dozer and any other related Earth Moving Equipment when required.
- Records and reports all operational delays engineering downtimes and cut square metres achieved for the production day.
