This position is in the Colorado Department of Revenue Firearms Dealer Division (FDD). This work unit exists to fulfill statutory responsibility to administer and enforce the Colorados laws and regulations related to firearms dealers in a consistent and common sense manner. To serve and protect the Colorado public and to foster a safe and compliant industry within the state for those who participate in the business of dealing in firearms.
A typical day as a Criminal Investigator for theFirearms Dealer Division:
The Firearms Dealer Divisions Mission is to promote public safety and responsible firearm commerce by ensuring compliance with state laws fostering education and accountability among firearms dealers and safeguarding the integrity of firearm transactions. Through collaboration transparency and the implementation of effective regulatory measures the division is committed to supporting a safe and secure Colorado for all residents.As a certified Peace Officer (P.O.S.T. this position exists to fulfill the statutory responsibility to administer and enforce Colorados Firearms Dealer laws in a consistent and commonsense manner. This position exists to serve and protect the Colorado public and to foster a safe and compliant industry within the state for those who participate in the business of dealing in firearms. This role administers and enforces Colorado Firearms dealer regulations on behalf of the Executive Director of the Department of Revenue. It also serves as the lead agency for enforcing state statutes related to firearm sales to the public.
Primary Duties:
Supervision & Management
Trains directs and supervises support staff in conducting investigations; responsible for performance planning regular performance reviews and completing annual evaluations in accordance with agency standards.
Oversee conduct monitor and evaluate criminal and administrative investigation of the team.
Assigns and monitors caseload reviews work product for completeness and accuracy schedules staff to ensure adequate coverage during firearm establishments operation hours.
Regulatory and Criminal Investigations
Stakeholder Outreach
Engages with firearms dealers and industry stakeholders to provide education guidance and prevention on strategies related to regulatory compliance.
The position educates the public industry personnel and others as to the Divisions role in conducting firearms enforcement in the State of Colorado.
Consults with District Attorneys and the Attorney Generals Office on criminal cases and proposed administrative actions as appropriate.

Experience Only:
Ten 10 years of progressively responsible professional investigative experience in a regulatory compliance or enforcement setting of which two 2 years must include direct supervisory experience over investigative or compliance staff.
AND
Must possess a valid Colorado POST certification that is active in good standing and free of any restrictions suspensions or revocations at the time of applyingOR
Education and Experience:Bachelors degree in accounting business administration public administration criminology criminal justice criminalistics political science police science law enforcement law psychology sociology or a closely related field as determined by the Department.
AND6 years of fulltime professional investigative experience in a regulatory compliance or enforcement setting of whichtwo 2 years must include direct supervisory experience over investigative or compliance staff.
ANDMust possess a valid Colorado POST certification that is active in good standing and free of any restrictions suspensions or revocations at the time of applying.
Substitutions
Criminal Investigative experience in a field appropriate to the position may be substituted for the degree requirement only on a yearforyear basis.
