The positionfunctions as a Police Pursuit Vehicle Specialist and is responsible for therepair and maintenance of all Police Pursuit vehicles owned by the MarylandState Police State Fire Marshals Office and Vehicle Theft Prevention position maintains vehicles which will at any given time; have to exceedtwice the posted speed limit in all weather and road conditions. Tis positionensures the safe and reliable operating condition of all Police Pursuitvehicles. The safety of the Trooper as well as the motoring public travelingthe Maryland roadways is critical.
Replace repair or rebuild components on MSP vehicles andschedule preventative maintenance.
Diagnose and repair mechanical/electrical install repair or replace electrical police equipment such asemergency lights sirens and shotgun racks within time limits.
Road test vehicles to insure the safe operatingcondition.
Perform minor welding work cutting torch work anrate a drill press.
Operate all computer scan tools to diagnose repairs.
Prepare necessary paperwork on completed repairs.
Other duties as assigned by supervisory or Commandpersonnel.
Education: Completion of theeighth grade.
Experience: Three years ofexperience servicing maintaining and repairing motor vehicles or equipmentone year of which must have involved responsibility for performing major automotiverepair work.
Notes:
1. Graduationfrom an accredited vocational/technical high school with amajor in automotive mechanics or a related field may be substituted for up tothree years of the required experience.
may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experienceas a noncommissioned officer in Mechanicclassifications or AutomotiveMaintenance Technician and VehicleMaintenance specialty codes in theMechanic or Maintenance field of work on a yearforyear basis for the requiredexperience.
Preferred Qualifications:
1Threeyears experience repairing and maintaining all aspects of an automobile.
2Currentor previous experience completing major repairs to engines brakes suspensionand electrical systems.
Employees inthis classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of amotor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess amotor vehicle operators license valid in the State of Maryland.
Employees in this classification are subject to randomsubstance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulation17.04.09 Testing for Illegal Use of .
In accordance with Section 2204 (b) 6 of the PublicSafety Article candidates will be subject to an initial drug screening aphysical examination and a complete criminal background investigation toinclude a polygraph examination before permanent appointment can be made.A criminal conviction may be grounds for rejection of the candidate.
