Overview

JOB SUMMARY

The Chief Development & Marketing Officer (CDMO) will bring a genuine passion for the mission of Girl Scouts of NE Kansas & NW Missouri (GSKSMO) along with proven experience successfully leading fundraising and marketing teams. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of five years of direct supervisory experience a proven track record of securing major gifts of $100000 or more and documented success in leading a team that has raised over $1.75 million annually (excluding federal grants). This individual will oversee the councils fundraising and marketing teams to advance the councils longterm strategy and sustainability.

The CDMO will be responsible for aligning external opportunities with internal goals ensuring seamless integration of strategy across all fundraising and marketing functions. As a key driver of revenue growth and innovation in strategic brand positioning the CDMO will identify new opportunities and implement strategies to diversify funding streams grow donor engagement and enhance the councils brand across its footprint.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Strategic Brand Positioning:

  • Lead Organizational Strategy: Collaborate with the CEO and senior leadership team to develop and execute a comprehensive longterm strategy that advances the councils mission. Ensure external relations partnerships and donor engagement efforts align with the councils goals and vision for growth and sustainability.
  • Unify Strategy and External Affairs: Drive the integration of external partnerships fundraising efforts and community engagement with the overall council strategy ensuring alignment between outwardfacing activities and internal operational goals.
  • Innovate for Growth: Identify and implement new opportunities for growth and innovation to strengthen GSKSMOs position as a leader in the nonprofit sector. Promote entrepreneurial thinking across departments and encourage diverse perspectives.
  • Diversify Revenue Streams: Expand and diversify the councils revenue base through innovative funding models including annual fundraising events digital campaigns corporate sponsorships and community partnerships. Ensure longterm sustainability by leveraging emerging trends in philanthropy and donor engagement.
  • Community and Stakeholder Engagement: Lead strategic relationshipbuilding efforts across the 47 counties served developing culturally competent engagement strategies to connect meaningfully with diverse communities.

Leadership Giving:

  • Grow Leadership and Major Gifts: Develop and execute strategies to increase the number of leadershiplevel contributions with a focus on cultivating sixfigure gifts. Identify new donor prospects while strengthening existing donor relationships to ensure longterm philanthropic support.
  • Diversify Revenue Streams: Drive innovative approaches to expand and diversify funding sources including peertopeer fundraising crowdfunding friendraising and other emerging models. Leverage these alongside traditional methods to build a sustainable and resilient funding base for the council.
  • Innovative Donor Management: Design and implement donor retention programs using datadriven insights to boost donor loyalty and engagement. Lead efforts to increase participation in major campaigns and grow planned giving initiatives.

Annual Campaign:

  • Broaden and Retain Donors: Develop and implement strategies to increase the number of annual campaign donors including targeted initiatives to reduce donor attrition. Create innovative outreach efforts to engage new and diverse donor groups with a focus on corporate government and private partnerships.
  • Develop Strategic Partnerships: Build and nurture key relationships with corporate sponsors foundations and government partners to increase financial support and advance missionaligned initiatives.

Marketing and Communications:

  • Elevate the Girl Scout Brand: Lead the councils marketing efforts to boost visibility and strengthen public perception of Girl Scouts in the region. Oversee the development and of multichannel marketing strategies across digital print and social media platforms.
  • Engage a Broad Audience: Manage campaigns such as Once a Girl Scout Always a Girl Scout aimed at reactivating and engaging Girl Scout alum. Create compelling content and messaging to support fundraising membership and program goals.
  • Lead Crisis Communications: Direct crisis communication efforts and safeguard brand reputation. Ensure the council is prepared to respond proactively to issues that may impact its public image across both digital and traditional media channels.
  • Utilize DataDriven Marketing: Apply data and analytics to optimize marketing and communication strategies ensuring that all efforts are performancedriven and aligned with council objectives.

Administrative Management:

  • Lead HighPerforming Teams: Lead and develop crossfunctional teams while fostering a collaborative environment that encourages growth and innovation. Ensure team members are aligned with organizational goals and empowered to deliver measurable results.
  • Track and Evaluate Impact: Establish and manage budgets monitor key performance indicators and ensure all activities align with the councils strategic objectives. Provide regular reporting on progress and outcomes to maintain transparency and accountability.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead and manage crossfunctional teams (fundraising and marketing).
  • Provide direct supervision coaching and professional development to staff to ensure alignment with council goals.
  • Foster a collaborative highperforming team culture focused on innovation accountability and missiondriven results.
  • Oversee departmental budgets performance metrics and reporting to ensure operational efficiency and strategic impact.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND WORKING CONDITIONS

  • This is a hybrid position.
  • Employees must reside within the Greater Kansas City Metropolitan area and attend regular inperson meetings.
  • Work is performed in a typical interior environment with some exposure to outdoor weather conditions dirt dust and extreme temperatures.
  • Monday through Friday including occasional evenings and weekends; hours are flexible

Qualifications

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelors degree
  • A minimum of five years of successfully leading and managing highperforming teams
  • A proven track record of securing major gifts of $100000 or more
  • Documented success of leading a team that has raised more than $1.75 million annually through fundraising events monthly giving programs major gifts grants (excluding federal) and other initiatives

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE)

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to push pull reach and lift up to 20 pounds frequently and occasionally 50 pounds

TRAVEL REQUIRED

  • Local travel required using personal vehicle with workrelated mileage reimbursement available
  • Domestic travel required to attend GSUSA meetings and conferences (up to four times annually)

Must be authorized to work in the United States.
