About the opportunity:
In this position you will join a team dedicated to enhancing the parks in Prince George. Your daily responsibilities will include turf construction and maintenance which entails new landscaping turf repair minor irrigation repairs overseeding fertilizing sweeping and mowing. This role will require physical labor the operation of equipment routine inspections recordkeeping and report writing. You will need to operate small motorized equipment including a skid steer loader and will be working outdoors in all weather conditions. Please be aware that you may encounter unpleasant waste materials and other biohazards during your work. Summer seasonal positions are typically subject to layoff in October with opportunities for annual recall.
About your background:
You should have at least three 3 years of relevant experience in areas such as turf construction and repair general construction carpentry repairs as well as knowledge of horticultural and arboricultural principles related to gardening landscaping and park maintenance. Additionally experience in operating equipment particularly a skid steer is required along with some prior supervisory experience. Ideally you will also hold a Level 1 Occupational First Aid certification. A valid Class 5 BC drivers license (or an equivalent from another province) is required. The successful applicant must also be able to obtain and maintain a clear Police Information Check for offenses related to the position. As a condition of employment the incumbent must complete one course in a subject related to the trade from an accredited postsecondary institution within one year of hire. Specifics: Following established safety protocol the incumbent may be exposed to unpleasant waste materials and other biohazards in the course of their duties.
