JOB DESCRIPTION


Title: Sonoma Natural Resources Crew Lead Supervisor

Department: Natural Resources

Reports To: NRC Coordinator

Location: Santa Rosa CA

FLSA Status: FullTime NonExempt from Wage and Hour Laws

Directly Supervises: 810 Natural Resources Crew Corpsmembers

Role with Agency: Supervisory

Accountability Indices: Satisfactory completion of responsibilities


The Natural Resources Crew Lead Supervisor (NRCLS) will make significant contributions to providing a positive work environment that values diversity and fosters a commitment to teamwork and learning. The NRCLS is responsible for all aspects of supervision for a crew of 810 young adults and updating the Natural Resources Coordinator on corpsmember and project progress. The NRCLS will lead the crew in successfully completing natural resource projects including habitat restoration fire fuel reduction creek maintenance invasive species removal and trail construction/maintenance. The NRCLS will support the NRC Coordinator with corpsmember and staff hiring and onboarding lead NRC trainings and assist with administrative duties and oversight of supervisors. Supervision and project management duties are as follows:


Supervision Responsibilities includes:

  • Facilitating personal and professional development for corpsmembers
  • Help develop proper work habits with corpsmembers
  • Supporting educational goals for corpsmembers and supervisors
  • Providing training; including tool use teamwork leadership skills workplace communication
  • Providing quarterly evaluations and helping to ensure these are completed by all supervisors
  • Taking action to resolve inappropriate behavior and personnel issues with corpsmembers
  • Documenting corpsmember performance and learning accomplishments
  • Ensure that all safety procedures are followed
  • Assisting coordinator to ensure all supervisors are completing their responsibilities (ADP entries output logs training hours JHAs uploading photos etc.

Project Management Responsibilities includes:

  • Conducting projects in a safe manner
  • Producing a level of productivity and quality that meets the expectations of CCNB and our project partner or sponsor
  • Providing project specific training
  • Caring for all equipment properly
  • Tracking work hours on a daily basis
  • Documenting project accomplishments
  • Representing NRC in corpsmember hiring and orientation
  • Filling in for coordinator when coordinator is out

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge skill and/or ability required to fulfill the duties of the position.   • Demonstrated experience supervising and motivating young adults from diverse social economic and educational backgrounds
  • Experience in the operation of trucks and trailers and ability to educate others
  • Demonstrated experience of power tools (ex: chainsaw hedge trimmer brush cutter chipper) and ability to supervise safe tool operation and teach their use
  • Experience with Microsoft Suite
  • Ability to complete tasks independently with high accuracy and efficiency
  • Knowledge of conservation land management practices
  • Ability to do strenuous work in adverse weather conditions
  • Desire to work in a fast paced and diverse environment
  • Ability to resolve conflict and mediate disputes
  • Standard First Aid and CPR certification (or ability to obtain certification within 2 months of hire)
  • Clean DMV record with ability to pass CCNBs driving exam
  • Associates degree or vocational training in natural resource management environmental studies ecology earth sciences sustainability or education
  • Experience in youth development project management and/or the implementation of natural resource projects
  • Must possess a strong service ethic and be able to instill this ethic into team members
  • Conversational Spanish language skills is a plus but not required

The NRC Lead Supervisor works outdoors around equipment and machinery walking on uneven ground and steep hillsides with exposure to excessive noise fumes and extremes in temperature. They may be expected to lift and move objects weighing up to 75 lbs. and carry objects at least mile. NRC Lead Supervisors frequently use special visual and auditory protective equipment. While performing the duties of this position the NRC Lead Supervisor is required to walk and stand; sit and bend; squat and climb; kneel and twist; to talk or hear. The NRC Lead Supervisor uses hands to operate objects tools or controls; and reaches with hands and arms. The NRC Lead Supervisor uses hands to perform simple and power grasping and fine manipulation; to push and pull.


COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

The NRC Lead Supervisor position is an hourly nonexempt position which is eligible for a full benefits package (Medical Dental Vision Chiropractic 403(b) retirement plan Holidays and Paid Time Off). Starting pay for this position is $27.75 $29.75 per hour depending on experience.
