PURPOSE
This position under general supervision advises students concerning the academic requirements for their chosen program and reports directly to the Senior Academic Advisor. This position is responsible for assisting students with course selection registration process and major selection. This position provides information on and refers students to university resources that can assist in meeting their needs or solving problems; communicates accurate and timely information and interprets institutional core and major requirements. May supervise projects.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Academic Advising: 65
Provides academic advising for students grounded in tenets of practice outlined by the National Association of Academic Advising (NACADA) and appropriate academic advising and student development theories.
Advises for course selection registration academic planning career and educational goalsetting appropriate resources transitioning to the university and retention issues. Document student advising outcomes adequately to meet department and institutional disclosure guidelines and aid in subsequent advising activities.
Advises in both group and individual settings with current and prospective students.
Perform appointment preparations including but not limited to reviewing all accessible academic records for accuracy and appropriateness of course work communicating with academic departments for majorspecific transfer equivalencies and requesting the posting of approved transfer courses.
Process academic forms and followup on processed forms to ensure that the students record accurately represents the students chosen major minor concentration and catalog year.
Interprets State University and college policies and procedures.
May travel to national and/or regional advising conferences; may be required to work beyond normal office hours including evening and/or on weekends.
Complies with all state system and university policies regulations rules procedures guidelines and directives in a timely manner and adhere to confidentiality policies (FERPA).
Student Success & Retention: 20
Advocate for student needs associated with their educational and academic program. Clearly communicate accurate and timely information to students and interpret institutional general education and major requirements per the university catalog. Exhibit strong active listening skills. Help students develop a realistic selfperception and successful transition into the university and help them to establish realistic goals for future endeavors.
Monitors academic progress and implements intervention strategies for students who receive academic alerts or who need assistance in maintaining or improving their academic standing.
Direct students to resources programs and services on campus when it is appropriate to do so.Help students integrate information so that they may make wellinformed academic decisions. Work to establish a partnership with students that will guide them efficiently through their academic program.
Monitor students advising requirements: Notify students of academic advising requirements when certain conditions have or have not been met. Maintain accurate and complete student file documentation. Prepare for and participate in on and offcampus recruiting activities. Prepare for present and advise at firstyear student orientations.
Support retention efforts include using Starfish and requiring probationary and returning suspension/enforce withdrawal students to schedule an appointment and discuss university guidelines and expectations.
Leads workshops seminars and other student engagement activities across campus.
Leads and oversees special projects specific to the academic college or advising center.
Maintain a professional and cordial liaison with administrators faculty staff students and other involved constituents concerning advisees and program. Track and obtain documents needed for potential and current students from other constituencies on campus.
Collaboration: 10
Collaborates with members of the campus community in student retention initiatives.
Seeks opportunities to serve and contribute on appropriate committees and task forces across campus to advocate for students.
Conducts research on topics within the field of academic advising and organizes activities for professional development.
Attend TAMUCC Commencement ceremonies.

May provide reports and data analysis of advising initiatives and special populations.
Mentors and builds strong relationships with other advisors.
Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelors degree
Two 2 years of experience advising students in higher education or related experience in higher education.
Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word Excel PowerPoint and Outlook) databases and spreadsheets.
Excellent listening written and verbal communication skills.
Ability and willingness to work as a team member and to work independently.
Demonstrated initiative and followthrough skills; tact diplomacy and judgment in dealing with students parents faculty and administrators.
Detailoriented and demonstrated ability to multitask in a fastpaced environment.
Ability to work beyond normal office hours including evening and/or weekends.
Ability to lead students in developing a sense of purpose and belonging while developing their educational and personal goals.
Attend and/or present at the national conference (i.e. NACADA TEXANN Texas Success Conference etc. and implemented applicable best practices across the unit.
Ability to use word processing spreadsheet database applications student information systems degree planning and degree audits. Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others present information clearly and concisely work with sensitive information and maintain confidentiality. Excellent written communication analytical interpersonal and organizational skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Three 3 years of experience advising students in higher education.
Experience with Banner Argos Starfish and Degree Works.
Demonstrated knowledge of developmental academic advising methodologies.
SALARY: $3657.34 Monthly $43888.08 Annual Approximately)
