The School of BioSciences is seeking an enthusiastic and collaborative academic colleague with expertise in genetics/genomics/ and/or epigenetics. Join the School of BioSciences at the University of Melbourne as a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor in Genetics and Genomics. Youll have the opportunity to lead innovative research programs teach and mentor students and collaborate with experts across plant insect and microbial biology. This role offers a balanced 40/40/20 split between research teaching and service allowing you to make significant contributions to your field while shaping the next generation of biologists.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Conduct WorldClass Research: Lead research projects publish in top journals and secure competitive funding to advance knowledge in genetics and genomics.
  • Deliver Exceptional Teaching: Develop and teach courses in genetics genomics and quantitative biology at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
  • Mentor Future Scientists: Supervise and guide Honours Masters and PhD students in their research projects.
  • Foster Collaborations: Build partnerships within the university and with external organisations including potential industry collaborations.

You may be a great fit if:

You are a passionate researcher and educator with a PhD in genetics synthetic biology or a related field possessing a strong publication record teaching experience and a collaborative approach to scientific inquiry.

You may also:

  • Have a track record of securing research funding and leading successful research projects.
  • Possess experience in teaching genetics genomics or quantitative biology at the tertiary level.
  • Demonstrate expertise in using model or nonmodel plant insect or microbial systems to ask cuttingedge fundamental or applied questions about the evolution or functioning of life using genetic or genomic tools.
  • Have strong quantitative skills with a focus on modelling or bioinformatics.
  • Show a commitment to fostering diversity and inclusion in academia.
