Job Description

The Admission Counselor will manage an assigned recruitment territory travel throughout the fall and spring to high schools and college fairs and meet with prospective students and families. Manage regional programming including interview programs and student receptions. Cultivate relationships with high schools school counselors and independent counselors on behalf of the university. Interact with regional alumni associations to promote alumni volunteer efforts for admission and complete special projects.

Frequent weekend and evening work is required. Additional responsibilities related to the organization and the offices efforts will be assigned based on office needs and the individuals skills and experience.

If skills and experience warrant this position will be an Assistant Director of Admission level. The Assistant Director of Admission will be responsible for meeting enrollment goals and objectives for an assigned territory in each admissions cycle. Responsible for the coordination of recruitment efforts in assigned territory which includes representing the University at inperson and virtual high school visits college day/night programs and college fairs; and conducting follow up activities designed to enhance students interest in DePauw. As a frontline ambassador of DePauw Universitys brand the Assistant Director must identify recruit and enroll students wellmatched with the Universitys programs and culture. Engagement with prospective students their families and other influencers includes timely response to questions or concerns as well as proactive relationship building. Assistant Directors review applications for admission as assigned to them and make recommendations to the Assistant Vice President of Admission regarding decisions and merit scholarship within the institutions prescribed admission and merit scholarship guidelines. Frequent weekend and evening work is required. Additional responsibilities that relate to the organization and efforts of the office will be assigned based on office needs and individuals skills and experience.

Admission Counselor:

Essential Functions Statement(s)
Support prospective and incoming students and their families in their college search and application process.
Manage the assigned recruitment territory by closely monitoring application numbers reviewing application documents recommending admission decisions conducting correspondence/communication.
Serve as an admission officer on the admission committee.
With training and support understand and be prepared to clearly articulate DePauw Universitys mission benefits key features of all academic programs campus life opportunities campus amenities and any other key points of interest to prospective students their families and/or their college search counselors or representatives.
Gather track and analyze data with the help of the admission Client Relationship Management System (Slate) and enrollment systems specialists.
Counsel prospective students and families on scholarships and financial aid.
Produce reports on key indicators to be agreed upon with the Assistant Vice President for Admission in order to communicate weekly recruitment progress in the context of future goals and past performance.
Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Associate Director of Admission or Assistant Vice President for Admission which supports general recruitment and enrollment goals.

SKILLS & ABILITIES


Education: Bachelors degree required.


Experience: Experience as an undergraduate admissions intern student ambassador or student volunteer is preferred.


Communication/Language: Ability to effectively communicate and/or present information to top management peers and public groups including high school students their parents and school and independent counselors.


Computer Skills: Familiarity and facility with database management statistical programs and webbased applications.


Other Requirements:
Must be committed to and be able to articulate the value of a residential liberal arts education.
Candidates must be comfortable traveling alone (by mass transit or by driving day or night) possessing the ability to navigate from location to location in unknown environments and the flexibility and problemsolving skills to successfully navigate challenges.
Must be a team player possess strong oral and written communication skills as well as creativity and innovation.
Must have a proven track record of meeting deadlines and assessing priorities asking for guidance when needed.

Assistant Director:

Essential Functions Statement(s)
Manage an assigned geographic territory including contacting prospective and accepted students and traveling eight to ten weeks to selected geographic areas. Recruitment travel includes event scheduling attendance and follow up data entry of prospects and event notes. Some recruitment events are virtual.
Recruit diverse and academically talented students while serving as a university representative for prospective students from initial inquiry to enrolled status.
Understand and be prepared to clearly articulate DePauw Universitys mission benefits key features of all academic programs campus life opportunities campus amenities and any other key points of interest to prospective students their families and/or their college search counselors or representatives.
Understand and be prepared to clearly respond to basic questions or concerns regarding financial aid.
Interview prospective students to enhance their level of interest in the University and to evaluate their academic readiness for the rigors of a DePauw education.
Evaluate application credentials and recommend admission decisions and merit scholarship recommendations to the Assistant Vice President of Admission in accordance with the prescribed guidelines.
Complete all necessary followup activities designed to enhance an applicants interest in DePauw.
Coordinate followup activities with prospective students and their parents school counselors and alumni to meet enrollment goals.
Develop and cultivate relationships with school counselors independent counselors and representatives of communitybased organizations.
Maintain accurate reports and gauge the effectiveness of recruitment activities.
Participate as assigned on the Counselor of the Day rotation ensuring that all campus visitors are properly greeted given an admission presentation and tour and that their needs questions and concerns while on campus are all appropriately and thoroughly addressed.
Attend all oncampus events throughout the year.

  • Complete other duties or special assignments as assigned by the Associate Director of Admission and/or the Assistant Vice President of Admission. All recruiting staff will be assigned other duties or special assignments by the Associate Director of Admission and/or the Assistant Vice President of Admission. Examples may include but are not limited to social media and marketing liaison vendor liaison content writer peer trainer etc.

Math Ability: Ability to add subtract multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers common fractions and decimals.


Computer Skills: Experience using a complex admission CRM preferably Technolutions Slate; experience working with spreadsheets and shared calendar systems.


Other Requirements:
The successful candidate must be committed to the values associated with a nationally respected liberal arts residential university including those related to diversity equity and inclusion.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills including written and oral skills are required as is ease in speaking with students parents alumni and counselors.
