We currently have an exciting opportunity for a passionate and dedicated General Technician. The information below provides more detail about the role and you may also wish to learn a little more about working for South Hampshire College Group by viewing the below video.

Duties:

  1. To prepare materials and set up equipment for use in workshops.
  2. To assist in the ordering and stock control of consumable items and equipment.
  3. To give practical assistance to faculty staff and assist students in a supporting role when classes are in operation.
  4. To assist with the areas Health and Safety requirements which includes taking an active part in maintaining any applicable system. (e.g. Risk Assessments maintaining Risk Assessment Logs and updating COSHH forms)
  5. To assist in departmental administrative tasks which include cataloguing filing photocopying and labelling of resource materials.
  6. To maintain good housekeeping standards in the working areas including tidying the work area and ensuring all equipment is satisfactorily maintained.
  7. To assist with the unloading of materials and equipment delivered to the College.
  8. To make occasional purchases and collect materials which are required for lessons.
  9. To support College Open events as required.

Skills/Experience:

  • Experience in prioritising and organising workload supporting a team
  • Understanding of safety requirements in a workshop and classroom environment

Qualifications:

  • Minimum GCSE Grade 4/C in English & Maths
  • Relevant qualification in the area of expertise (or commitment to achieving this in the required timeframe)

  • Ability to work unsupervised and under own initiative
  • The flexibility to constantly cope with new challenges and change.
  • Demonstrable commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
