Education and/or Experience:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Must meetall contractual local state and federal requirements of a professional driver
- Minimum of two years experience as a school bus driver in a public school district (preferred)
- Must meet all qualifications for a bus driver for DISD
- Must maintain an exemplary driving record per DISD safe driving incentive guidelines
Certificates Licenses Registrations:
- Must have and maintain a valid Commercial Drivers License (CDL) with all appropriate endorsements and classifications and all other required licenses permits and certifications.
Specialized knowledge and skills:
- Must have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively and pleasantly in person via telephone and twoway radio
- Knowledge of recordkeeping and office procedures
- Ability to work under pressure and prioritize effectively
- Must demonstrate diplomacy and flexibilityat all times
- Complete assigned tasks accurately with minimal supervision
- Follow District and Transportation policies and procedures
- Must be able to work a split shift (i.e. 6:00 a.m. 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. 5:00 p.m.
ROUTING SPECIALIST ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Assist in solving such conditions as route overloads routes needing attention equipment needing repair loading and unloading stops
- Monitor and respond to twoway radio communications
- Respond appropriately and decisively to emergencies
- Answer and route telephone calls; record and distribute messages in an accurate and timely manner
- Update assigned route maps and descriptions
- Contact parents/guardians concerning student management problems
- Handle incoming concerns/issues from parents
- Participate in training
- Exercise responsible leadership
- Perform as a substitute driver/monitor as needed
- Take initiative in identifying and working on nondriving tasks
- Upload Skyward every morning and sends copies to archives
- Maintain routing information on Transfinder/Skyward
- Efficient withof Zonar/Infofinder/Skyward/Routefinder programs
- Efficiently manage multiple emails daily from all campuses to assign students to routes/bus stop locations accordingly
- Assist in editing streets/parcels in Routefinder
- Download information from Routefinder into Infofinder
- Perform all other duties assigned by the Director of Transportation
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supervise students during transport
