Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) School of Medicine is a premier academic medical center located in the heart of Richmond. Accounting for almost half of VCUs sponsored research the School of Medicine is internationally recognized for patient care and education.

Position Summary:

The Office of Faculty Affairsis the School of Medicines central location for oversight of facultyrelatedpolicies and guidelines recruitment new faculty support promotion and tenureand professional development for faculty at all levels. The VCUSchool of Medicine Office of Faculty Affairs is seeking applicants for anAffiliate Faculty Analyst. This positionwould be responsible for daytoday operations in support of our AffiliateFaculty including database management overseeing promotion processes andcoordinating required training for new and current Affiliate Faculty.

Job Duties:

  • Manages Affiliate Faculty Appointments for VAMC MCVP only physicians external faculty providing nonVCU clinical rotations for medical students and external affiliate appointments for research collaborators at other institutions
  • Manages Promotion Process for MCVP employedphysicians who hold Affiliate Faculty appointments in the School of Medicine;VAMC and Affiliate Faculty; collects promotion requests throughout the year andreviews with Sr. Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs no later than April 1 ofeach year. Processes promotion documentsand updates FIS and Banner accordingly.
  • Collaborates with department leadership in developing a plan to transition Affiliate Faculty promotion processes to the SOM Promotion & Tenure system over time.
  • Manages and tracks the Internal Affiliate Appointments for SOM Faculty with other VCU Schools
    • Receives requests from SOM departments and other VCU Schools for Internal Affiliate Appointments ensuring all VCU and SOM requirement are met. Reviews and approves requests; generates appointment letters using appropriate DocuSign templates and maintains database of appointments
    • Generates regular reports to departments from OFA databases for departments and other stakeholders
  • Ensures that all Affiliate faculty are sent required training and responsibility acknowledgement documents; tracks documentation and follows up with nonresponsive faculty
  • Updates FIS to reflect new revised or terminated Affiliate Faculty Appointments
  • Works in collaboration with VAMC staff to create accurate records in Banner to establish new faculty appointments
  • Communicates required SOM/VCU process to department HRAs and SOM HRP when necessary; assists with training on Affiliate Faculty process when appropriate
  • Collaborate with other OFA staff and Faculty Development staff to provide necessary services to all SOM faculty and Affiliate Faculty
  • Other duties as assigned when appropriate
Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Degree Requirements Bachelors degree in a related field such as Human Resources Business Administration or Healthcare Administration
  • 1 3 years of experience in HR operations or Faculty Affairs; preferably in an academic medical center
  • Database management experience
  • Solid analytical skills using Microsoft excel or Google Sheets
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to function independently in a highly matrixed environment
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering an environment of respect professionalism and civility with a population of faculty staff and students from various backgrounds and experiences or a commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.
