Where you will work
The Augusta mill sits along the Savannah River on the state border between Georgia and South Carolina and manufactures light medium and heavy weight coated paperboard. It is a wellinvested SBS paperboard manufacturing facility with approximately 600 thousand tons of capacity. This facility boasts over 700 employees and has been in operation for almost 65 years. Located on 3000 acres the Augusta site operates two paper machines that produce 1940 tons per day. The Augusta Mill is Clearwater Papers largest paperboard facility and critical to the success of our strategy and future.
Augusta Georgia is a vibrant community along the Georgia/South Carolina border about 150 miles east of Atlanta and 70 miles west of Columbia. What you will do
The Environmental Manager leads environmental compliance activities in all areas of manufacturing facility providing professional knowledge and expertise in the administration and support of environmental programs. The position will also be responsible for the air compliance requirements of the mill.
Leadership
- Provides leadership guidance and technical support to operations management
- Maintains departmental/area budgets
- Continuously improves mill environmental performance and mill profitability by active involvement within the operating departments
- Maintains a positive and productive working relationship with the community and environmental agencies
- Coordinates sitewide activities; assists other businesses as required
Regulatory Requirements
- Interacts with the plant personnel and company management to communicate environmental requirements identifies compliance issues implements compliance requirements and acts as a technical resource
- Conducts permitting review applicability of capital and maintenance projects
- Oversees facility inspections and audits
- Oversees and leads incident investigations and verifies implementation of corrective action
- Develops systems to ensure compliance with environmental regulations
- Acts as the interface between management and outside agencies in resolving major environmental issues
- Provides training to environmental department and plant personnel on key environmental issues environmental requirements and compliance
- Performs statistical analysis prepares reports maintains appropriate compliance records and files required documents with various regulatory agencies within stated deadlines
- Works closely with Mill Leadership and Corporate communications as needed with internal and external media requests
Project Management
- Prepares and manages contracts with suppliers and consultants for major projects and routine activities
- Works independently with outside consultants contractors and legal counsel
- Assembles and assimilates technical information for permitting activities

What you will need
- Bachelors degree in environmental science Environmental Engineering Law or related education
- Minimum 10 years environmental experience required with thorough working knowledge of pulp and paper manufacturing process and pertinent regulations including good working knowledge of permitting stack testing and water analysis procedures
- Must be able to read process and instrument diagram (PID) drawings and process diagrams
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
- Must possess high degree of problemsolving skills
- Must be able to work with a diverse group of people in a professional manner and be able to handle several work tasks concurrently
- This person must be able to work with minimal supervision be a selfstarter and take the initiative to evaluate and drive process improvements
- Proficient at an intermediate level in Microsoft Word and Excel
- High speed manufacturing environment sustained exposure to high frequency noises multiple hours standing walking on concrete surfaces
- Personal Protective Equipment required in mill environment
- Dirt noise odor and temperature extremes
- Climbing stairs ladders and scaffolding
- Work environment includes exposure to compressed air steam lubrication oil dust and hydraulic fluid
