The Education Program Consultant (Social Studies) will be an integral member of the Learner Strategies and Supports Bureau providing technical assistance leadership and support to school districts Area Education Agencies and nonpublic schools.
Your Responsibilities:
Support scaling and implementation of evidencebased mathematical instructional practices to include providing classwide small group and individualstudent instruction/interventions and supports across the state for all students. This includes participation in existing statewide collaborative implementation and scaling structures including:
1 facilitation of or membership on statewide development and delivery teams;
2 providing technical assistance focusing on needs assessment implementation and evaluation of instructional efforts;
3 using implementation science to support scaling and implementation efforts.
Participate on Department internal teams to integrate statewide (Department of Education Area Education Agencies local districts/schools accredited nonpublic schools and other stakeholder groups) efforts related to mathematics instruction within a multitiered system of support (MTSS). This work includes helping to establish consistency in information and resources related to explicit and systematic instruction direct instruction specially designed instruction (SDI) and other evidencebased instructional approaches used with students diagnosed with dyscalculia or those that demonstrate characteristics of dyscalculia math deficiencies and students with IEPs and the relationship between these approaches and those used with all students.
Provide guidance related to implementation of explicit and systematic instruction as part of interventions for students diagnosed with dyscalculia or who demonstrate characteristics of dyscalculia struggle with math and students with IEPs including staying current on both federal and state requirements and communicating to Iowa stakeholders the implications and connections for students.
Maintain professional competency through review of professional research onsite visitation of programs and continuing education activities. Participate in professional activities of Bureau Division Department and national and state organizations. This work includes regular participation in bureau and division meetings and taking initiative for obtaining current information related to other efforts related to instructional practices at the Department.

Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:
1 Graduation from an accredited fouryear college or university and five years of fulltime postgraduate work experience in any one or a combination of the following areas:
a. Professional training teaching or counseling experience in an educational setting;
b. Professional administrative experience in an educational setting;
c. Professional personnel administration including such areas as job analysis performance appraisal systems selection devices or labor relations;
d. Professional finance accounting or auditing experience including the preparation or analysis of financial statements;
e. Professional experience in a major technical program area utilized by the Iowa Department of Education or Board of Educational Examiners.
2 A combination of a total of five years of postgraduate education and fulltime experience (as described in number one) where twentyfour semester hours of accredited postgraduate college or university course work equals one year of fulltime experience.
3 Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Masters degree possession of a valid Iowa Teaching Certificate and three academic years of teaching and/or administrative experience in PK12 and/or a postsecondary educational institution.
4 Possession of a School Business Official Authorization from the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners and seven years of fulltime professional experience in finance accounting or auditing including the preparation or analysis of financial statements.
