Job Description

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Works under the direction of the Vice President for Development & Alumni Engagement.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Assistant Director of Annual and Affinity Giving and support staff as necessary.

POSITION SUMMARY: The Director of Annual and Affinity Giving plays a vital leadership role in growing philanthropic support for Moravian University Moravian Theological Seminary and Lancaster Theological Seminary. This senior fundraising professional is responsible for the strategy and management of all annual and affinity giving initiatives. As a strategic partner to the Leadership Gifts and Engagement teams the Director ensures alignment of annual giving efforts with broader development goals and fosters a culture of philanthropy among alumni students and friends of the University and Seminaries.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Strategic Planning and

  • Develop an innovative multiyear annual giving strategy to increase participation and revenue from unrestricted and restricted annual gifts. Oversee and manage the creation of multichannel appeals.
  • Drive strategy for retention and growth of annual giving societies including the Zinzendorf Family Fellows (families) and Main Street Society (consecutive) and directly supports the expansion of Comenius Bahnson and Lark Societies (leadership annual) membership.
  • Plan and lead targeted giving campaigns such as Giving Day/Week initiatives.
  • Provide comprehensive and collaborative operational support to the Athletic Giving Challenge and other crowdfunding activities.
  • Collaborate with the Operations team to analyze donor trends and campaign performance using datadriven insights.
  • Integrate annual giving efforts with reunion and major gift strategies in collaboration with fundraising colleagues.
  • Serve as a strategic partner to Alumni Boards Student Philanthropy Committees and affinity groups providing guidance and support to build engagement and volunteerled fundraising. Prepare and present regular reports to internal and external stakeholders including leadership the board and volunteer committees.
  • In partnership with the Engagement team develop the strategy for and support the student engagement efforts related to fundraising including student calling programs and peertopeer fundraising initiatives.

Portfolio and Volunteer Management

  • Manage a portfolio of 100125 annual giving prospects focusing on cultivation solicitation and stewardship to elevate donors into leadership and major giving pipelines.
  • Work with staff and volunteers to implement peer solicitor networks and other affinitybased fundraising strategies.

QUALIFICATIONS: A baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution and 3 years of experience in higher education fundraising administration or a complex metricdriven operation; or the equivalent. Experience developing and leading volunteer networks with accountability and success metrics. Experience in developing annual giving marketing or communications strategies. Technologically adept and curious regarding new applications and systems that will improve effectiveness and efficiency.

Strong ability to prioritize multiple highlevel projects with competing interests while building consensus and meeting expectations. Must be an independent decisionmaker energetic organized forwardthinking and creative with the ability to multitask and meet strict deadlines. Broad knowledge of all communications channels and experience with online media platforms and giving/engagement sites. The position demands strong interpersonal skills as well as the ability and desire to work closely with all constituencies of the University and Seminaries. Willingness to travel and give necessary time beyond a normal workweek.
