Job Description

Essential Job functions:

Director of Laboratory is responsible for collaborating with the SVP and Medical Director of Laboratory and decision making necessary to manage the fiscal resources of the department in a manner that is financially responsible and consistent with the overall goals of the organization by:

Demonstrates visibility and builds trust among team members; seeks opportunities to reward and recognize staff; fosters strong team cohesiveness within own area of responsibility by:

Manages and develops human resources consistent with organizational values guidelines regulatory agencies established contracts and legal requirements by:

Promotes the use of information technology.

Evaluates departmental needs to assure established quality patient services and makes recommendations to the Director. Participates in Quality Assessment & Improvement activities by gathering data and reporting events as reflected in the annual evaluation. Develops workflows to support Quality initiatives. Ensures proper completion of incident/risk management reports concerning employees and patients. Verifies and authenticates computer reports or other means required to supply necessary data to the payroll department for accurate and proper payment of personnel. Plans conducts and distributes minutes of monthly staff meetings with Site Supervisors and Leads. Effectively communicates organizational vision strategy and applies this to departmental initiative and directives Develops revises and reviews departmental policies guidelines and standards. Communicates policies procedures and guidelines to staff and serves a liaison between staff and the Medical Team. Monitors and ensures compliance with all the above. Plans & implements an effective departmental orientation. Acts as a mentor and coach in staff development and ensures that staff competencies are at their highest level. Performance Management is completed in a timely manner with appropriate documentation. Works collaboratively with and utilizes resources within staff development and education. Maintains effective and appropriate staffing by monitoring employee turnover overtime and absenteeism and compares this to industry standard benchmarks with the objective of continuous improvement. Plans for and works collaboratively with the SVP and/or COO to develop departmental goals based on the organizations strategic goals and objectives e.g. Access Productivity TAT of laboratory results and customer service results. Utilizes and manages dashboards and makes changes to operations in support of service quality access and financial goals. Works collaboratively with Laboratory Manager Site Supervisors and Leads to review monthly P&Ls and variances Acts as liaison and fosters communication between office staff other department managers senior administration and physicians to ensure timely and effective flow of information and resolution of concerns and complaints. Oversee the planning of Department meetings; works collaboratively with the Laboratory Manager and Site Supervisors on meeting agenda. Works collaboratively with Physician Acquisition and Business Development administrator to coordinate and oversee on boarding of physicians and physician practices that includes Laboratory testing including all Business Office IT and practice management aspects. Oversee staff on boarding process including HR aspects training and development. Negotiate contracts with outside vendors consultants or organizations for services within the Clinical and Pathology Laboratories. Participates in the development of goals objectives policies procedures and priorities within the Clinical and Anatomic Pathology departments. Monitors departmental productivity measurements TAT reports status and takes appropriate action. Oversees Laboratory Quality Assurance program. Develops & monitors a quality control system making changes as necessary. Ensures that the Clinical and Anatomic Pathology Departments maintain compliance with all regulatory requirements to ensure compliance with accrediting agencies. Oversees the responsibility for the maintenance and quality control of departmental equipment and proper use by employees Serves on various committees as appropriate ie. Safety committee and Infection Prevention committee

General Job functions:

Responsible for all laboratory operations. Ensures that all lab results are reported using sound judgment.

Responsible for the integrity of Laboratory Information System and its interfaces with other SH systems. Supervises departmental computer downtime procedures. Oversees proficiency testing in a manner and time frame that is consistent with good laboratory practice. Responsible for ontime submission of proficiency testing and acceptable results. Ensures that daily weekly monthly and quarterly instrument maintenance is performed by technicians. Ensures maintenance contracts are current and necessary PMs are performed.

Performs or assigns to staff R&D evaluations for new laboratory testing to increase laboratory revenues. Responsible for followup on all laboratory customer service issues
