Job Description
The Department of Biology at the University of Hartford has an opening for a tenuretrack Assistant Professor starting in August 2025. The candidate will specialize in teaching Ecology and contribute to the Biology and Environmental Studies programs.
Responsibilities
The successful applicant will teach courses in Biology and Ecology and contribute to the Biology and Environmental Studies programs. There will also be opportunities to teach in our innovative University Interdisciplinary Studies program. An active scholarly/research/artistic agenda with peerreviewed publications presentations performances or other accomplishments in the scholars area of expertise are expected for successful tenure and promotion . The candidate is expected to develop an independent research program that can involve undergraduate students and will lead to publications. Service to the department college and university will include advising students in biology and environmental studies and participation in recruitment and retention efforts. The candidate is also expected to demonstrate a commitment to working with a diverse student population.
Required Qualifications
Required: Applicants should have a PhD (advanced ABD will be considered) in Biology or related field. Preferred: Has demonstrated teaching ability in the Biological Sciences Has taught Ecology lectures Has taught Ecology lab Has taught in the Environmental Sciences Has research and/or prior postdoctoral experience that would be feasible for studentcentered research that would match with the space and equipment availability and funding Demonstrates a promising scholarly focus and trajectory with a potential for external funding Demonstrates an involvement and interest in service such as advising recruitment and retention efforts Demonstrated commitment to inclusive excellence Experience in teaching/working or conducting research with diverse populations Scholarship or research that engages with diversity equity inclusion and/or social justice issues and/or minoritized populations For questions about this position please contact Search Committee Chair Dr. Yingcui Li:
