Job Description
The Department of Physics of the University of Hartford is accepting applications for a fulltime tenuretrack Assistant Professor position to begin in August 2025.
Responsibilities
The successful applicant will teach courses in physics at the introductory level for various programs and at the upper level for physics majors. There will be also be opportunities to teach in our innovative University Interdisciplinary Studies program. An active research agenda with peerreviewed publications presentations or other accomplishments in physics are expected for successful tenure and promotion. Service to the department college and university will include advising students in the physics major. Candidates with a commitment to mentoring and supporting diverse and underrepresented student populations through advising recruitment and retention will be preferred. The Department of Physics serves a large number of students in the College of Education Nursing and Health Professions the College of Arts and Sciences as well as programs in the College of Engineering Technology and Architecture. A normal teaching load is 3 courses per semester with a typical size of less than 25.
Required Qualifications
Required: An earned doctorate in physics or a related area is required; ABDs will be considered providing they document a degree completion date. Candidates should have a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching and to scholarly activity. Candidates should show a willingness to include undergraduates in meaningful research. Preferred: Candidates have experience and ability of teaching courses in physics at the introductory level for various programs and at the upper level for physics majors. Candidates should show a willingness and ability to employ technology in teaching. Candidates are able to conduct independent research on campus. Candidates have the potential/ability to Involve students in research. Candidates who have a theoretical and/or computational specialization with expertise in condensed matter astrophysics and/or astronomy are encouraged to apply but candidates in all areas of physics will be considered. Candidates have strong letters of recommendation. Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to inclusive excellence as well as experience in teaching working or conducting research with diverse populations. Additionally they should have scholarship or research that engages with issues related to inclusive excellence particularly concerning minoritized groups.
