Job Description
Toast is driven by building the platform that helps restaurants adapt take control and focus on what they do best: creating experiences their guests love. Tremendous business growth has spurred a need for significant investment in Toasts platform teams. The Services Infrastructure team takes on some of Toasts more complex and interesting challenges scaling distributed systems under high transaction volume:
- Designing building and maintaining critical routing infrastructure that underpins the operations of all Toast services edge gateway service mesh control plane and routing sidecars
- Enabling hundreds of engineers throughout Toast with selfservice tools and experiences in the Internal Developer Platform to help manage the lifecycles of services and SPAs in a safe secure and compliant way
- Developing and evangelizing patterns and best practices to improve the scalability observability and reliability of all Toast systems
- Consulting with teams to improve product scalability observability security and reliability
- Participating in outage response and root cause analysis for critical systems and infrastructure incidents
About thisroll* (Responsibilities)
- Enable a team of half a dozen talented engineers to continue performing at a high level and help increase the impact of their work
- Create and drive strategic organizationwide scalability observability and reliability initiatives in collaboration with technical leadership and Product Management
- Guide teams to build systems that can support an orderofmagnitude growth in traffic and enable a high degree of infrastructure customization
- Facilitate professional growth by mentoring engineers and leads on your team
Do you have the right ingredients* (Requirements)
- Handson experience managing a team in a platform/infrastructure or enterprise space
- Background in leading complex engineering projects in a Scrum environment
- Experience in building and running distributed systems
- Exposure to Cloud architectures and patterns
- Bonus for familiarity with any of Nginx EnvoyProxy or Kubernetes
