Whether specializing in law government affairs employee relations risk compliance ethics security or food safety we use our expertise and influence to advocate for Target support Targets business and mitigate risk for the company. We work with internal and external entities on key issues affecting Targets ability to conduct business productively ethically and securely. Through our understanding of Targets business models and operations we help facilitate Targets growth and provide guidance that leaders rely on to make appropriate wellinformed decisions. Simultaneously we help protect the business by applying our comprehensive understanding of risk and the law on issues that impact our brand guests team members stores distribution centers and corporate locations.
A role in Government Affairs means ensuring local and federal government entities have positive relationships with Target Enterprise. You will act as an advocate on behalf of Target and serve as an internal expert to both internal and external entities on a variety of key social and governmental issues an internal expert to both internal and external entities on a variety of key social and governmental issues that allow Target to conduct business in the most productive way.
This work is performed in a dynamic sometimes volatile and highly visible political environment that involves significant reputation and brand considerations. With your experience network and policy knowledge a successful Team Member will be open intellectually curious and committed to working in a bipartisan fashion.
Targets Government Affairs team is highly collaborative and each Team Member is expected to bring their input and recommendations to the teams work. This includes Team Member civic engagement and awareness and external and internal risk and reputation management all consistent with Targets values and purpose.
As a Senior Manager Government Affairs Sat Target youll be an integral part of our Government Affairs team driving impactful advocacy and fostering strategic relationships with local elected officials and community stakeholders. Youll work closely with the regional Government Affairs Director and collaborate with a diverse team of professionals to influence public policy and enhance Targets competitive edge in a dynamic and visible political environment.
Advocacy and Representation:
o Build and maintain strategic relationships with local elected officials and public safety leaders such as district attorneys and police chiefs.
o Advocate on behalf of Target with local lawmakers including mayors city council
members local planning commissions and other local government stakeholders.
o In close collaboration with the regional Government Affairs Director represent Target in industry groups working groups and coalitions.
Problem Solving and Issue Management:
o Address local issues impacting stores and distribution centers including neighborhood complaints and good neighbor agreements.
o Partner with the Government Affairs Director to monitor legislative developments conduct policy research and support state and local advocacy efforts.
Community Engagement:
o Collaborate with the Stores Properties and Real Estate teams to support events such as groundbreakings ribboncuttings and store openings (VIGs).
o Partner with the Community Impact team to represent Target at relevant events and initiatives.
o Support grassroots activities including calls to action store tours and distribution center activations.
Strategic Insight and Trend Monitoring:
o Develop an intelligencegathering strategy to identify emerging trends and proactively address potential impacts to the business.
o Shape advocacy priorities in alignment with Targets business objectives and values.

About You:
Bachelors degree in political science Business Communications Marketing or a related field or equivalent experience.
35 years of experience in government relations public affairs or external engagement.
Availability to travel up to 25
Proven ability to analyze complex policy issues solve problems creatively and manage multiple priorities in a fastpaced environment.
Strong interpersonal and diplomacy skills with a track record of building lasting relationships with stakeholders.
Commitment to upholding discretion and sensitivity when working with confidential information.
Collaborative mindset with the ability to engage crossfunctional teams and contribute to Targets valuesdriven culture.
