Job Description

The Department of Architecture at the University of Washington invites nominations and applications for a nontenure track position as Lecturer to teach fabrication and furniture design courses. Our college has a history of design and fabrication and boasts a wellequipped fabrication lab that includes wood metal and digital fabrication equipment. We are searching for candidates who will teach undergraduate and graduate students in Architecture and Landscape Architecture while advancing handson design and fabrication knowledge and skills within our college.

Our Department resides in the College of Built Environments which also includes the Departments of Construction Management Landscape Architecture Real Estate and Urban Design and Planning. The University of Washington is a globally ranked research and teaching institution located in the heart of one the countrys most vibrant and innovative cities and our department enrolls over 300 undergraduate and graduate students in five programs including a NAAB accredited MArch Program two MS programs and two BA degrees as well as hundreds of nonmajors each year.

Responsibilities & Terms:

Faculty are to be on campus during the academic year to teach courses mentor students and engage in service including advising students supporting student organizations and serving on departmental and college committees. The selected candidate will be assigned classes that may include studios lectures and seminar courses and may also include hosting of open lab hours on weekends and evenings.

This is a 9month (Sept 16th June 15th) appointment renewable on an annual basis for up to three years with an anticipated start date of September 2025. This position is 50 to 100 of full time. The position is at the rank of Lecturer and carries full fringe benefits. The position is not eligible for promotion or renewal beyond three years. The position will have 90 of its time dedicated to teaching and 10 dedicated to Departmental College and/or University service.

Compensation:

The base salary range for this position is $/month (at 100 of full time) commensurate with experience and qualifications or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.



Required qualifications:

Bachelors degree and at least 3 years of experience.

Technical proficiency with wood working tools

Demonstrated excellence in design and fabrication

Demonstrated capacity to mentor emerging designers with diverse backgrounds or significant evidence of ability to do so

Desired qualifications:

Experience in furniture design and fabrication

Ability to use and teach the use of metal and/or digital fabrication equipment

Experience teaching in an academic environment

Experience supervising a fabrication lab/wood shop with users of varying expertise

Demonstrated success with collaborative practice and/or teaching
