Job Summary:

Caterpillar Virtual Product Development (VPD) Systems & Platforms team lives at the intersection of engineering and information technology. One of the teams major responsibilities is enterprise ownership of HighPerformance Computing (HPC) capability for engineering modeling and simulation. The HPC operations team has an opening for an engineer who will be responsible for HPC System administration of OnPremise and Cloudbased Linux computing technical role is part of a global distributed team that shares responsibility for achieving excellence in its operational metrics for performance availability and user support.

What You Will Do:

  • Configuration deployment and maintenance of the Linux Cluster Hardware and HPC Software applications suite associated Storage and network infrastructure. Administration of the teams Hosting and management systems that enables the HPC.
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting for end users issues related to HPC hardware and Solver software applications evaluate and perform job performance and application testing.
  • Work on HPC Operational and Strategic Projects efforts participate in User Group Forums
  • Ensure compliance to enterprise IT security and technology controls
  • Evaluation and implementation of new tools and methods for improved operations and service delivery

Education Requirement:

  • Bachelors degree in computer science information systems or engineering (or equivalent experience 4 years)

Top Candidates will also have

  • 2 years experience in administration of heterogeneous IT compute and storage infrastructure
  • Extensive knowledge of Linux operating systems
  • Strong Scripting capability in one or more languages Python powershell shell/bashetc Azure/Gitlab Devops CICD pipelines
  • Knowledge of TCP/IP fundamentals
  • Demonstrated experience with cloudbased computing resource deployment (Azure AWS)
  • Microsoft Azure fundamentals administrator or solutions architect certifications
  • TCP/IP networking certification(s)
  • Working knowledge of distributed/parallel file systems and storage appliances (Isilon Netapp Qumulo etc)
  • Experience with HPC deployment and middleware technologies (Bright Cluster manager Altair PBS Pro SLURM Torque MOAB)

Implementation:
Tracks problems associated with the quality and effectiveness of application software.
Researches the benefits and drawbacks of an organizations application software.
Drafts application software usage for the departments needs.
Provides instant support for end users of application software.
Implements a specific application software under the supervision of management.

Requirements Analysis:

Follows policies practices and standards for determining functional and informational requirements.
Confirms deliverables associated with requirements analysis.
Communicates with customers and users to elicit and gather client requirements.
Participates in the preparation of detailed documentation and requirements.
Utilizes specific organizational methods tools and techniques for requirements analysis.

System and Technology Integration:
Assists with current and planned integration initiatives.
Explores major issues and considerations for successful system integration.
Works with applications data technology bridges and a variety of platforms.
Works with existing interfaces as well as integration and migration plans within own area.
Plays an active role in local integration efforts.

System Testing:
Supports the project leader in developing and executing system test plans.
Evaluates system documentation and user manuals for usability accuracy and completeness.
Executes test cases analyzes test results and reports on findings regularly.
Tests system components for compliance with functional requirements.
Participates in the testing of a systems ability to recover from hardware or software failures.
