Position: Epic Principal Trainer

Reports to: Application Manager
Location: Krembil Discovery Tower Toronto Western Hospital
Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Status: Temporary Fulltime 12 months with possibility of extension or conversion)
Closing Date: May 02 2025

Job Summary:

The Epic Principal Trainer is an integral member of Integrated Cares Digital Health Team. This position works closely with other members of the Integrated Care Program (staff and consultants) UHN Digital team and the technical vendor(s) to design and develop digital education for users of the Epic HIS with a focus on Dorothy and Compass Rose modules. The Principal Trainer will design create simulations maintain and analyze the Epic training environment.

Duties:

  • Design develop and maintain engaging curriculum content and instructional material for all clinical and nonclinical end users of Epic (e.g. Integrated Care Leads nurses PSWs allied health professionals administrative staff operations & finance staff etc.. 
  • Collaborate with organization leaders subject matter experts and application analysts to incorporate organizational best practices into the curriculum content.
  • Design build and maintain central repository for learning content with version control.
  • Build test and maintain training environments while providing support and troubleshooting issues as required.
  • Develop training curriculums that are in alignment with adult learning principles instructional design formatting and content placement to ensure learners can easily understand the context and absorb the information effectively.
  • Ensure compliance with curriculum creation and training delivery standards templates and processes.
  • Determine the criteria used to judge learners performance and develop assessment instruments.
  • Use feedback tools and assessment results to evaluate instructional effectiveness and revise curriculum as needed.
  • Review Nova Notes and update training curriculum tipsheets and the training environment to reflect system upgrades.
  • Create and maintain documentation to build a repository of key configuration decisions and associated build.
  • Work closely with the Epic HIS vendor project team and operational subject matter experts to help create future state workflows by participating and leading site visits working group meetings validation sessions and other related meetings.
  • Facilitate and participate in meetings to discuss deliverables end user concerns and upcoming milestones.
  • Participate in system governance and change management processes.
  • Contribute to the development of new and/or improvement of existing program policies and procedures.
  • Perform crossfunctional and/or other duties consistent with the job classification as assigned or requested.

Qualifications :

  • Bachelors degree in Health Informatics Computer Science or a related field (or equivalent experience)
  • Principal Trainer Certification in one or more of the following Epic applications is an asset:  Inpatient Ambulatory Compass Rose Cadence Rover Bridges Dorothy and/or Comfort
  • 34 years of experience with one or more clinical/business applications in a healthcare organization required
  • Experience with hardware and/or software vendor relations an asset
  • Experience providing adult education in a healthcare setting an asset
  • Demonstrated proficiency working with Microsoft Office (i.e. Visio Word Excel PowerPoint Outlook SharePoint OneNote) is required
  • Ability to analyze user requirements and come up with creative solutions to meet end user needs
  • Technical aptitude and ability to learn new software rapidly
