Airway Heights Corrections Center (AHCC)
Full Time Permanent
The Department of Corrections is seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual for a Recreation & Athletics Specialist 3 (RAS3 position at Airway Heights Corrections Center.

Airway Heights Corrections Center (AHCC) is a 2000 bed male facility located approximately 10 miles west of Spokane. The prison consists of a main facility that houses mediumcustody and longterm minimumcustody incarcerated individuals. A separate perimeter adjacent to the main facility accommodates a minimumsecurity unit forincarcerated individuals with minimumcustody or lower.

Whether the work is inside a prison in community corrections or in an administrative office the Washington State Department of Corrections professional staff experience a high degree of personal satisfaction knowing they are creating environments in which all incarcerated individuals can learn to make choices that contribute to a safer society.

Duties

The RAS3 position in the Recreation Department is invaluable in the support of the Department of Corrections ability to Work Together for Safer Communities. In the Recreation Department we provide incarcerated individuals (I/I) at AHCC the opportunity to learn develop and practice prosocial skills and recreational skills that will assist in their ability to successfully transition into the community. The RAS3 position is responsible for all areas of recreational programming at AHCC including but not limited to athletics incell hobby & music porter supervision special events barbershop I/I photographs and gymnasium activities.

  • Supervision of Intramural Sports leagues (both live and electronic) as well as providing both sedentary and athletic special events. This includes training and supervision of I/I officials roster management game scheduling and direct supervision of all contests/events. Special events will be planned offered and supervised multiple times throughout the year.
  • Supervision of the weight deck to include processing of all user fees maintenance of the list of approved participants as well as other program related paperwork.
  • Assist in supervision of all aspects of both InCell Hobby & InCell Music. This may include processing of vendor packages and catchup materials from the property room and delivery of curio mailouts to the mail room or property room as appropriate. Supervision of the processing of both incoming and outgoing materials to ensure they are authorized. Supervision callout management and printing and distribution of photographs to participants. Purchase and maintenance of associated supplies and equipment as needed.
  • Manage all aspects of the barbershop including but not limited to: hiring training cleanliness signups payroll etc. Assist in the daily supervision of all I/I employees of the recreation department.

Qualifications

Required:
High School diploma or equivalent.

Preferred/Desired Qualifications:
College degree and/or credits in Recreation Management or associated field.
Supervisory experience.
Recreational / Athletic programming experience.
Correctional/institutional or large organization work experience.
