Job Description

Department: Instruction

Unit: Professional and Administrative Exempt

Wage: Compensation range listed is based on an average 115 years of experience as determine by Human Resources

Grade 106 107 or 108 depending on the grade level specific salary based on experience

Direct Supervisor: Executive Director

JOB SUMMARY

The person serving in this position will be responsible for the supervision coordination and implementation of the District Uniform Discipline Code for Student Conduct under the direction of the principal. The Dean of Students will supervise and monitor student activities clubs and organizations. He/she shall assist the principal in establishing and maintaining a safe and orderly learning environment.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Maintains an atmosphere that is conductive to the educational process.
  • Establishes routine processes and procedures that are conducive to the educational process.
  • Assists the Principal in the management of the school.
  • Assists the Principal and other administrators in noncertified staff supervision and evaluation.
  • Ensures the District policies are followed and implemented.
  • Promotes community understanding of school policy and needs as well as working with various community agencies.
  • Works with District and building staff and students while implementing student discipline under the District Uniform Discipline Code of Student Conduct.
  • Develops positive and appropriate relationships with students.
  • Works with teaching counseling security coaches and other staff in the area of student behavior and student services.
  • Communicates with and engage parents students and staff.
  • Supervises students during before after school and at school related extracurricular activities.
  • Assists in the supervision and formal evaluations of assigned noninstructional support staff.
  • Assists the Principal in the preparation and administration of the school budget.
  • Participates in building and district committees/meetings directed by the principal and/ or superintendent or designee.
  • Actively cultivates positive relationships with students and with parents.
  • Works as part of the building team to ensure academic achievement of all students.
  • Works in other administrative areas as directed by the principal.
  • Meets regularly with district leadership to implement the directives of the district.
  • Interacts with coworkers administration students and parents in cooperative supportive and positive ways.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelors Degree
  • Two 2 years of experience successful working with students at the secondary level or other equivalent experience working with youth
  • Bilingual in Spanish

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters degree

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of models for changing student behavior.
  • Ability to exhibit leadership in working with staff students and community.
  • Ability to stay aware of and deal with the multiplicity of issues in an urban school district.
  • Ability and desire to effectively communicate both orally and in writing with diverse populations.
  • Ability to provide demonstrated evidence of GRPS Guiding Principles: Ethical Behavior Openness Service Productivity Accountability and Capacity.
  • Ability to demonstrate administrative capabilities and experience in a Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) management philosophy.
  • Ability to organize and implement a system for consistent schoolwide student behavioral management.
  • Ability to work effectively with students families and staff.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records.
  • Ability to demonstrate a willingness to grow professionally.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The work is light work which requires exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force to move objects. While performing the duties of this job the employee is required to stand walk sit use hands to finger handle or feel reach with hands and arms stoop talk hear (in a quiet or noisy environment). Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision distance vision and ability to adjust/focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud to moderate. Work is performed indoors although there will be required outdoor activities. The employee is directly responsible for the safety wellbeing and work output of students.

MENTAL FUNCTIONS

While performing the duties of this job the employee is required to compare analyze communicate both orally and in writing copy coordinate instruct compute synthesize evaluate use interpersonal skills compile and negotiate.
