Williams College seeks a passionate and strategic Director of Athletics Communications to drive engagement and excitement for our Athletics program connect with our vibrant community and shape the narrative of our 32 varsity teams as well as our physical education and recreational programs. This is a fulltime year round position reporting to the Director of Athletics and collaborating closely with the Colleges Communications Office.
As the Director of Athletics Communications you will develop and execute dynamic communications strategies maximize our digital presence (website social media) and serve as the voice of Ephs Athletics to campus families alumni recruits and the media (NESCAC NCAA).
Responsibilities:
Lead & Inspire: Be a key member of the Athletics senior leadership guiding communications strategy and managing a talented team (including an Assistant Director and student staff).
Connect & Collaborate: Forge strong partnerships with the College Communications Alumni Relations and Development offices to weave athletics into the broader Williams story and support fundraising.
Create & Innovate: Oversee compelling content creation (stories releases social media) website management and cuttingedge communication methods.
Drive Game Day Excitement: Coordinate live stats professional webcasts and media operations for all competitions.
Represent & Advocate: Serve as the primary media contact and College representative with the NESCAC and NCAA.
Requirements:
Associates degree bachelors degree or equivalent professional experience
5 or more years of relevant experience in marketing communications sports management or similar field with some direct experience in Athletics communications.
Proven leadership and management skills
Expertise in and strong understanding of content management systems such as Sidearm Presto etc.
Experience and expertise in various social media platforms including but not limited to Facebook X Instagram and Youtube.
Experience with graphics software such as Canva and Boxout Sports
Excellent verbal and written communication skills and demonstrated success at building collaborative relationships and meaningful interactions with various stakeholders such as: coaches department staff studentathletes administrators faculty campus partners alumni and community members.
Ability to work a flexible schedule including frequent evenings and weekends to support events and under the pressure of very tight deadlines
Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team
Ability to exercise good judgment and discretion in sensitive situations and work effectively in a fastpaced and complex work environment
Highly Preferred Qualifications:
Ability to produce or oversee the production of video highlights or messaging
Expertise and experience in using athletic statistic programs
Ability to analyze reports from digital analytics tools such as Google Analytics Sprout Social and/or Meta Business Suite to track data and produce reports that are easily understood by a variety of stakeholders
Working knowledge of NCAA and NESCAC rules
