Description

The Director of Graduate Admissions reports directly to the Executive Director of Enrollment Management while overseeing the entire graduate admissions process for the university. This includes recruitment evaluation of applications and enrollment management often working with the Glenville State University Graduate Council Deans/Chairs of the departments/colleges and the office of Academic Affairs. The Director of Graduate Admissions plays a key role in developing and implementing strategies to attract qualified graduate students. They must work with Marketing/PR to develop and implement strategies to grow graduate enrollment.
This position oversees graduate recruitment efforts builds partnerships with key stakeholders and ensures a seamless admissions process. The Director will work collaboratively with academic departments faculty and external partners to increase enrollment and enhance the graduate student experience from inquiry through matriculation.

Examples of Duties

  • Serves as a point of contact for graduate students.
  • Develop and execute recruitment strategies
  • Evaluate graduate applications.
  • Make/recommend graduate decisions to the appropriate individuals/committees.
  • Communicate with graduate directors & Deans/Chairs.
  • Work with and manage university CRM Liaison
  • Attend graduate fairs both in and out of state.
  • Monitor and make recommendations to the Deans/Chairs to updates to the website for all graduate programs.
  • Attend Graduate Council meetings.
  • Orient and counsel graduate students with respect to program and degree requirements until a permanent adviser is selected and assist in that selection as necessary.
  • Support undergraduate admissions when needed.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Candidate must demonstrate strong verbal and interpersonal communication skills as well as the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a wide range of constituencies in the university community. Must also demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively in writing. Strong listening skills and the ability to be empathetic to student needs are essential.

Candidate must have strong time management organizational and planning skills with the ability to prioritize and manage completing priorities. Must also demonstrate the ability to adhere to and enforce institution policies and guidelines. A strong commitment to confidentiality and professionalism is essential as the person in this role will be called on to handle confidential information with discretion.

Candidate must possess strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills with the ability to be an innovative thinker and suggest creative solutions. Must also be open-minded and optimistic to effectively support and guide students.
Basic computer skills are required. A working knowledge in Microsoft Office/Excel is required.

Typical Qualifications

Bachelors Degree is required Masters Degree preferred.
A minimum of two years of professional work experience in Higher Education is preferred may include graduate assistant positions.
Familiarity with academic advising student success research and understanding of factors that drive retention is desirable.
Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience is acceptable which provides an applicant the listed knowledge skills and abilities and the capability to perform the essential functions of the job.
