Job Summary:
The High School Counselor plays a critical role in supporting students academic social and emotional development. This position involves providing guidance on academic planning career readiness and personal growth while fostering a supportive and inclusive school environment. The counselor works closely with students parents teachers and administrators to ensure student success and wellbeing.
Key Responsibilities:
Academic Counseling:
- Assist students in course selection graduation requirements and academic planning.
- Monitor students academic progress and provide intervention strategies as needed.
- Collaborate with teachers and parents to support students educational goals.
- Facilitate credit recovery and alternative learning pathways for students in need.
College & Career Guidance:
- Provide resources and counseling for college applications scholarships and financial aid.
- Support students in exploring career options vocational training and postsecondary opportunities.
- Assist in organizing college fairs career workshops and guest speaker events.
- Assist students with standardized test preparation (SAT ACT AP exams etc..
SocialEmotional Support:
- Provide individual and group counseling to address personal social and emotional challenges.
- Develop and implement programs that promote mental health and wellbeing.
- Respond to crisis situations and provide referrals to outside support services when necessary.
- Advocate for students and work to create a safe and inclusive school environment.
Administrative & Collaboration Duties:
- Maintain accurate student records and confidentiality in accordance with school and state policies.
- Work with teachers administrators and support staff to develop student support plans.
- Participate in IEP (Individualized Education Program) and 504 Plan meetings as needed.
- Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress and concerns.
- Lead or support schoolwide initiatives related to student development and wellbeing.
Qualifications:
- Degree in School Counseling Psychology or a related field.
- Valid Oregon counseling certification/licensure.
- Experience working with high school students in an educational or counseling setting.
- Strong communication problemsolving and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of academic planning mental health support and college/career readiness.
- Ability to work collaboratively with students families and school staff.
Work Environment & Expectations:
- Work primarily in an office setting with occasional classroom visits and student meetings.
- May require evening or weekend hours for special events parent meetings or crisis response.
- Active engagement with students faculty and the school community on a daily basis.
