Job Description

Under the general direction of the Director of Athletics and the Field Hockey Head Coach the graduate assistant for field hockey will assist the head coach in recruiting studentathletes to the program instruct and develop the studentathlete in the sport of field hockey game preparation and community involvement. Instruction should include but not limited to the rules strategies and techniques relating to practice and competition in this sport. The Graduate Assistant will also support the mission and goals of the Athletic Department.

Essential Duties include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Coaching 50

  • Assist with the practice planning and player development;
  • Train and coach during practice sessions;
  • Assist with team academic monitoring;
  • Organize team bonding opportunities;
  • Coordinate community service;
  • Assist in team fundraising.

Recruiting 25

  • Increase recruiting database;
  • Attend high school and club games;
  • Evaluate players during recruiting events;
  • Coordinate with head coach prospects days on campus;
  • Collaborate with admissions on perspective recruits;
  • Organize overnight visits with head coach;
  • Communicate with head coaches about perspective players;
  • Email text call tweet etc. recruits on a weekly basis.

General Athletics Assistance 25

  • Game management;
  • Work with alumni relations on creating and updating our alumni database;
  • Work with our sports information on social media newsletters and interviews.

  • The employee must be able to effectively communicate with students coaches college administrators and parents.
  • A high level of independence and organization is required.
  • Candidate must be available for weekend evening spring/fall breaks and early morning practices and events.
  • Proven integrity leadership and a thorough knowledge of field hockey are required.
  • Candidate should possess a strong commitment and ability to motivate teach counsel and recruit academically qualified studentathletes.
  • Must have a valid drivers license.

Education

  • Bachelors degree and full acceptance into one of the Hood Colleges graduate programs required.
  • Proven successful coaching or playing with 23 years experience preferred preferably at the collegiate level or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of NCAA Division III rules and regulations preferred.

Technology Skills

  • Computer proficient in Microsoft Office Suite such as Microsoft Word Excel etc.
  • Proficient with the internet and email.
  • Ability to learn new applications quickly including organizationwide information systems and departmentspecific software applications.

Language Skills

  • Ability to read and interpret medical documents and NCAA guidelines.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of students parents or others.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively provide information and positively respond to questions from both external and internal customers both in person and by phone.
  • Ability to develop marketing or promotion materials.

Mathematical Skills

  • Ability to work with and apply mathematical concepts timely and accurately manually by using a calculator which apply to athletic trainers.
  • Ability to apply concepts to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written oral diagram or schedule form.
  • Ability to hypothesize draw conclusions and support conclusions.
  • Ability to work in theoretical arena and apply logic as appropriate.

Compensation

The compensation for Athletic Graduate Assistants consists of a $3000 annual stipend a tuition waiver for up to 18 credits per year campus housing and a meal plan. This temporary position is not benefitseligible except for paid Maryland sick leave. Learn more about Hood College.
