Job Description

If you love the stately rain forests and salt water of British Columbias west coast you will really enjoy life in the First Nations village of Lax Kwalaams (Port Simpson)!

We are only a short ferry ride and a 17 km drive on newly paved road from Prince Rupert. A pristine environment surrounds this coastal village with easy access to shopping and all the facilities of Prince Rupert including bus train and air transportation. Coast Tsimshian Academy is a fouryearold facility where all classrooms are equipped with Smart Boards and telephones laptops are available and the school includes a library and access to a beautiful indoor pool (w/water slide sauna hot tub etc. gymnasium and weight room facilities. You will never need to go outside to transit from the school to these modern wellmaintained recreational opportunities. Coast Tsimshian Academy is seeking the services of a

Fulltime 1.0 Teacher capable of teaching

Grades 8 12

English

in a team teaching environment.

This position will conform to the Prov. of British Columbia curriculum guidelines.

All subjects shall be integrated with Tsimshian First Nations History and Culture where appropriate. The successful candidate will begin teaching immediately.

Preference will be given to candidates with the following characteristics:

  • Possession of (or eligibility for) B.C. Ministry of Education Teaching Certificate
  • Successful teaching experience in a First Nations community
  • Ability to meet the challenges of classroom management and differentiated curriculum delivery at the senior level and successfully address student challenges in emotional and social areas
  • Familiarity with computer technology and the use of Smartboards in the delivery of curriculum
  • Ability to cultivate regular meaningful dialogue between school and home to support parental engagement in the learning process of students
  • Willingness to participate in extracurricular programs to engage students beyond the academic arena
  • Willingness to engage with local culture and participate in community events
